The final version is scanned from a brushed stencil cutout, and made to fit the 'fence' that partially covers Anselmo's face.
But every logo with a strong personality detracted from the composition, so we tested simpler, hand-drawn approaches instead.
The shovel variant got some serious love, and was tested on the cover in various iterations.
The logo is the work of Santa Ragione's co-founder Nicolò Tedeschi @niguloto.bsky.social , who started sketching from horse-shoes and farm-related concepts

Santa Ragione co-founder Nicolò Tedeschi @niguloto.bsky.social designed the HORSES logo, realized with a precision-cut stencil which was hand-brushed in and digitized. Nicolò was the art director for Wheels of Aurelia, and co-directed MirrorMoon EP and FOTONICA.
Alberto Putignano implemented all UI systems, including support for superimposed translations on 3D elements, in addition to the game’s dialogue, options, menus, saves, and credits. He’s previously worked on fantastic digital board game adaptations with @horribleguild.bsky.social
Stefano Sanitate @stefanosanitate.bsky.social masterfully refactored all interactions and systems drafted by Andrea, helping streamline gameplay, on top of implementing the most intricate sequences from scratch. Before, he directed Saturnalia’s gameplay programming in the 2nd half of development.
Flaminia Grimaldi @sunkenlola.bsky.social contributed additional 3D art and stage design. You know her work from 2021 IGF Excellence in Art nominee JETT: The Far Shore, on which she acted as Lead Environment Artist. Previously, Flaminia researched and modeled all environments in Wheels of Aurelia.
HORSES was written and directed by Andrea Lucco Borlera. This is his first game, as he previously studied cinema and directed short films, and he now teaches audiovisual disciplines. Creatives who come from different disciplines seem to have a much greater sense of freedom in what games can tackle!
