Decided to rummage through my shelves to share what I've read and want to read for #womenintranslation month. I don't need any encouragement as this genre dominates my reading piles...a peek behind my reading curtain!
Post-tattoo treat with latest read (peach crumble blondie if you're interested). Read is the re-issue of Illusions by Ruth Rehmann. Breathlessly long sentences mean I'm tumbling through it and don't want to stop.
Harvesting sweetpeas down the community allotment. Birdsong. Sunshine. Sweat.
Had a lovely night chatting to Claire Fuller about her latest novel Hunger & Thirst. @forumbooks.bsky.social Filled my cup to be back in the room with book lovers. More of this please 🙏
Happy @alcs.co.uk day, also known as Sarah gets new shoes day, to all who celebrate 🥳
Writing pals, I'm in #Belfast Mon-Thurs next week for a little writing retreat. Will be working mainly out of Crescent Arts Centre and would love to have a cuppa and chat writing with anyone who's around 😀
Sitting up in bed because my nose is so blocked from latest lurgy kind of night. Doubt sleep will happen so time to start on this one. Obsessed with this series.
Please accept a late entry in the shape of my Indian runner duck tattoo. #InternationalUnsolicitedDuckPicDay
First ever sighting of my writing in an actual bookshop. Absolute scenes.
Spook Night in town and some very....interesting hosting from a local dignitary. Scenes straight out of Alan Partridge. Wholesome family fun 🫠
Out on the road with an author today. A lovely reminder why I spend so much time sending emails and wrangling people and schools and books. Belly laughs. Books in hands. Storytelling. Proper magic.
A busy work week but also a satisfying one. New tattoo, crocuses for days and had a hand in getting the 2025 programme ready for launch. I will be taking to my bed for the next two days.
Want to rant about some awfully behaved kids on the bus and how it makes me sad about humans but everything is bad enough so here's a lovely still light sky and I'm allowed to start walking without my moon boot now so slowly slowly things get brighter.
Feels very fitting that a young writer from one of my groups brought this along yesterday... lemon curd Cobain.
I co-host a podcast called Books, Unpacked and we would love to chat to someone who works in cover design... we're recording new episodes via Zoom this month. Please share, DM if you're interested or know anyone! #Podcast
Lovely birthday wobble to Wallington then Corbridge. Teeny tiny pots and a lush stack of books. Now under a blanket with chocolate cake and Gladiators. Perfect.
Went out for the first time in two weeks! Hospital checkup, all going well. Coffee and brownie in my favourite spot. Saw loads of people and had hugs. Went round Lidl on my kneeling scooter. A great day.
Full week post op and still a suspiciously low level of pain in my ankle. Plenty of itching though. Knitting needle has been deployed. A week on crutches has absolutely wrecked my hands though. Might resort to sliding around instead. Glad I got out before the storm hits...
Had an ankle operation yesterday and was so beautifully cared for by everyone I interacted with at Rake Lane. Care, compassion, humour. #NHS at it's best. Now for recovery so I can get back to it!
Few days dotting around the coast to blow the cobwebs off. Ruddy of cheek and full of cup. Lovely stuff is never too far away.
Reflected on my year via nice coffees. Turns out it was a nice year. Would recommend beverage based reflections. Highlights include coffee with my emotional support pigeon, coastal wandering, a Pilgrimage to Holy Island in a hooley and top tier welsh cakes. Little treats for the win.
For my day job, I'm the youth engagement manager at a small but mighty festival. I love books, obvs, and getting them into the hands of young readers and seeing them engage in storytelling is the best.
Seeing as I'm ill, again, I've time to introduce myself. Although I do allsorts, I'm mainly a writer, facilitator and book festival programmer. I'm also finding a way to manage as I discover more about myself and ADHD at 41, and navigating child free life.
A weekend of constrasts; snow, storms, podcast adventures and sun, punctuated by coughing. So much coughing. Getting on my own nerves 🙄
Extremely excited to read this and also to get the cover colour matched as it's exactly what I want for my bedroom walls. #amreading
My festive break mainly consisted on cheese, books, friends and floods. Perfect. Now I'm back at my desk and determined to finish my short story collection...onwards...
