SarahJaneAvory@sarahjaneavory· 8d C64 #Delphian progress: added an image for the cargo bay, so here's another WIP video clip. Thinking of updating the image with cargo canisters as the cargo bay fills up...

SarahJaneAvory@sarahjaneavory· 10d C64 #Delphian progress: I've created an interior image and I quite like it... so I hooked it into the game. Anyway, here's how the game looks at the moment.

SarahJaneAvory@sarahjaneavory· 12d C64 #Delphian progress: just for fun (as I can't use this image) a ship interior! 😀😊😉

SarahJaneAvory@sarahjaneavory· 15d #C64 #Delphian progress: life's been a bit up and down recently, but it's okay now. So, did a bit more work on the game, getting the star chart to work. I can now select a destination star system (that's in range) and jump there. Still some optimisation to do, but here's how it's looking so far...

SarahJaneAvory@sarahjaneavory· 28d #C64 #Delphian progress: bit more work on the hyperspace effect this evening. Also added fade in/out on cursor, plus added a charging message and bar.

SarahJaneAvory@sarahjaneavory· 29d #C64 #Delphian progress: been working on a hyperspace effect this evening, and this is what I have so far...
Oh, and star chart is kinda working already, so soon I'll be able to jump properly between stars.🙂

SarahJaneAvory@sarahjaneavory· Jul 2 #C64 #Delphian progress: this is still a bit rough, but here's the latest video clip. From planet surface to space, and back again to landing on the planet and walking around. Needs a bit of optimisation in places, then comes a hyperspace jump!🙂

SarahJaneAvory@sarahjaneavory· Jun 27 #C64 #Delphian progress: minor update as I've just added the horizon curve at high altitude. Next step is to add a planet in space (and I have a circle draw ready for that). Then comes re-entering orbit, and then return to surface flight. Oh, and did I say I'm having lots of fun with this?😀🥰

SarahJaneAvory@sarahjaneavory· Jun 26 #C64 #Delphian progress: finally got the code working for the transition from flight to entering space. Still WIP and a bit rough, and I still want to curve the horizon at high altitude. But here's what I have so far, from walking around, boarding a ship and flying around, to heading into space...

SarahJaneAvory@sarahjaneavory· Jun 22 #C64 #Delphian progress: back to the surface! I'm coding up the main game flow, so added code for walking around, boarding a ship, taking off, flying around a bit, landing, getting out of ship. Turning feels smoother after adding 1024 entry sine table. So next step: heading into space...

SarahJaneAvory@sarahjaneavory· Jun 17 #C64 #Delphian progress: modified my own 3D model editor to output files for the C64, so now I have a spaceship in game.🙂Lots of changes to the 3D engine to support polygon types: points, lines, triangles, quads, and pentagons. Solid polygons might be playable on a 1Mhz C64...🤔

SarahJaneAvory@sarahjaneavory· Jun 10 #C64 #Delphian progress: still WIP and a bit rough, but solid polygons are now working.🙂 Time for a bit of optimisation...
My aim is to give the player graphics options: wireframe for speed, solid for visuals (and sacrificing speed). Of course a 64Mhz C64U will have no issues with solid polys.😀

SarahJaneAvory@sarahjaneavory· Jun 9 #C64 #Delphian progress: not the most impressive video clip ever... but here's the WIP 3D system showing wireframe with hidden surface removal working. I still need to optimise some of the maths further... then the next step is (probably) solid polygons!🙂

SarahJaneAvory@sarahjaneavory· Jun 2 #C64 #Delphian progress: here's a little WIP video clip showing a bit of walking around, the WIP galaxy chart, and of course a bit of flying through space with my new circle draw and some space debris.🙂All this is on a stock 1Mhz C64. More to come...

SarahJaneAvory@sarahjaneavory· May 10 After a bit of optimising (screaming at screen when it wasn't working, overjoyed when it finally was), here's WIP C64 Delphian running on a stock 1Mhz C64.😀 It's around 2-3 times faster than it was, and there's still more I can do... Should be pretty zippy on a C64U at 64Mhz, so will try later.🙂

SarahJaneAvory@sarahjaneavory· May 8 So Delphian C64U running at 32Mhz... Runs a lot slower at 1Mhz, but the idea would be graphical settings to let the player decide between more detail and slower speed, or less detail and more speed.

SarahJaneAvory@sarahjaneavory· Apr 28 A bit more work on a possible #C64 version of Delphian, my unreleased space trader from the 80s. This is running on a stock C64, and with interrupt driven controls it feels playable. I'll have to test with a lot more sprites on screen, but I'm happy with it so far.🙂

SarahJaneAvory@sarahjaneavory· Apr 20 ...and here's the same thing running on a 64Mhz C64U. Funny thing is, it's not much slower at 32Mhz.

SarahJaneAvory@sarahjaneavory· Apr 20 Been messing about with some C64 maths code for a possible version of Delphian. At 1Mhz on my C64U it's a bit slow, but probably playable for what I need once I add interrupt driven controls.

SarahJaneAvory@sarahjaneavory· Apr 8 #C64 #Kouyate #RPG progress: a quick little video clip showing a patrolling enemy on the world map who spots me and gives chase!

SarahJaneAvory@sarahjaneavory· Mar 23 Been a bit of a wait but... I had a delivery today... 😀🥰

SarahJaneAvory@sarahjaneavory· Feb 17 #C64 #Kouyate #RPG progress: a quick little video clip showing the positional swap when bumping into wandering NPCs. No more getting stuck in narrow passages! Yay!😀😜 There's no sounds as my PC is having audio problems (I think the motherboard audio is dying).

SarahJaneAvory@sarahjaneavory· Feb 7 Cats are on the bed. I think they want me to get up and fix breakfast...

SarahJaneAvory@sarahjaneavory· Feb 6 #C64 #Kouyate #RPG progress: before working on the fire and lava dungeon, decided to extend the Dwarven mines a little, so worked on that this evening and got it hooked into the game. Basically, there's now a back entrance to the mines that leads else where in the world...🤔 Oh, let me show you...

SarahJaneAvory@sarahjaneavory· Feb 3 #C64 #Kouyate #RPG progress: not been feeling so good about life recently, so progress has been a bit slow. Still, been working on shop interiors for the Dwarven mines, so here's what I have so far. Also added a few secret areas... I'll say no more...

SarahJaneAvory@sarahjaneavory· Jan 27 #C64 #Kouyate #RPG progress: I feel like I'm making good progress on the tiles for the dwarven mines, with the shops all added and working, so I've included a few WIP screenshots.
324K out of 960K cartridge space used. Still a long way to go... but any progress gets me closer to finishing.🙂

SarahJaneAvory@sarahjaneavory· Jan 21 It's 5 overlayed sprites. I have my own sprite editor that can easily edit such graphics.

SarahJaneAvory@sarahjaneavory· Jan 21 #C64 #Kouyate #RPG progress: added another village, but not ready to show it just yet as it needs a few more background tiles creating.
Also added a new pirate character portrait (thanks to @mementomoree.bsky.social ), so here's how it looks:

SarahJaneAvory@sarahjaneavory· Jan 16 #C64 #Kouyate #RPG progress: a visit to the shipwright allows ships to be built. So with one already built, one can do a bit of sailing. And then one can perhaps find Pirate's Bay, the 2nd pirate town, on an island... I hear they sell good stuff there, yarr...

SarahJaneAvory@sarahjaneavory· Jan 13 #C64 #Kouyate #RPG progress: working on a bit more of the pirate town, adding the scripts for The Captain (BTW, I love my scripting system). Also added a few pirates as well, but they don't want to talk to me for some reason and insist I talk to The Captain...
