@saramoslener.bsky.social's book VIRGIN NATION is on my reference shelf and often my desk. It's the sort of book I just keep finding myself going back to again and again. It means so much to be considered a "must read" by someone to whom I so often find I "must footnote."

This endorsement from Samuel Perry means a lot to me, not only because I know him as a serious scholar, but also because I know he is a person of faith—and it is so good to see someone with both lenses be outraged *and* inspired by these stories. DAMNED IF SHE DOES is out 9/15/26!

This endorsement is so meaningful to me. If you know Bradley Onishi you know he is one of the leading voices warning against those who want to reshape our country with an authoritarian form of religion (that little resembles the faith many still hold dear).

I neglected to post this here yesterday. Hegseth said at a briefing that US troops would give no quarter to the enemy. Maybe he was sharing plans to flout international law. Or maybe he is just parroting his fav pastor, who makes it an annual event to give "no quarter."

I have been running on the elliptical most days for over a decade. It used to be a way to push my weaker muscles and allow myself to rely on my stronger ones to keep going. I run half an hour exactly.

I have sad news to share. My mom, Lois Stankorb, passed away in her sleep yesterday, listening to opera on her beloved NPR. All the good I have in this life is thanks to her.

The highlight of my trip to San Diego for #sblaar24 has been meeting my fellow religion journalists. So much care and deep reporting from this bunch! (This was for my profile last year about @christabrown.bsky.social for VICE.)

This week I pulled off a big surprise. My mom's facility had its Thanksgiving dinner and we snuck in her china. For most of my childhood, this was the fanciest thing in the house. So many other things disappeared to the pawn shop (and never came back), including her engagement ring.

Such a fabulous day at Books by the Banks! This photo of books was toward the end of the day. Sooo many copies of #disobedientwomen went out to new readers today. People kept telling me it is timely. Oh, how I wish it wasn't *quite* so timely, but grateful to have a model for moral disobedience!
