closet call

Comic by saucypaws in the bad habits series.

1st panel. A female canine wears a pink floral top, glasses and silver cross necklace. One of Dani and Jenna's friends.

She is holding the handset of an old 90s phone to her ear, nervously fiddling with the cord.

"Gosh, well..." she says. We are joining mid-conversation. "I did notice she was looking pretty down about the whole thing... and just when you two were starting to act like a pair again, eh?"

"Yeah..." replies a voice on the other end. Dani's voice, sad. Flat. "Yeah..." she sighs, one last time.

2nd panel. Dani sits by a window inside the gas station where Jenna left her. It is now much darker outside, still snowing. A lonely scene.

"She's just really sad 'cause I'm gonna be moving away," Dani explains. "That's all it is. Y'know?"

3rd panel. Dani again: "Anyway... I only wanted to let you know I'm on the way. I'll see you soon."

4th panel. "Um..!" the friend on the phone suddenly speaks up. "Is that... really all it is?"

2nd page of the comic.

1st panel. Dani looks shocked at the flip phone next to hear ear. "...What? What do you mean?"

She doesn't get an answer. Not straight away, anyway.

In the 2nd panel we see her friend again, phone no longer at her ear. She is staring at someone. In the foreground we see who - another girl. One we haven't met before. "Hello?" Dani's voice can be heard again. "Mel?"

And in the 3rd panel, Mel is standing in silence, looking suddenly lost... and pained. As she hovers the phone next to her floppy ear again, she keeps on staring at the girl in the other room, but doesn't quite have it in her to speak to the one on the end of the line. Only sounds come out: "I... I uh..."

4th panel. Mel finally speaks, turning away from the other room and back to the shade. "Oh... I don't know what I was gonna say. You know I'm silly like that."

"Right... haha..." Dani's voice awkwardly comes back.

"See you later," Mel signs off... but she can't help but look sad.

The two sisters stand outside on the street.

"Um..." Jenna begins. "I didn't drink that much... just so you know. But Dani, oh man-"

2nd panel. Jenna's sister starts to walk out of frame. "C'mon," she offers, cold and brief. "We gotta get going." Jen looks understandably concerned.

3rd panel. They arrive at the red car seen in previous chapters. Jen watches her sister discard a cigarette and asks her: "...who were you texting?"

"It was work," comes the reply.

4th panel. After a moment of silence, the two sisters end up on either side of the car. Amber still won't look at Jenna. "Just get in."

We see the two sisters settling into the car. The door closes with a 'chk' sound effect. Although Jenna watches her sister nervously, her sister (Amber) still won't look back.

2nd panel. Finally, a deep sigh. Amber has her hand on her face, the other limply hanging from the steering wheel. Something is clearly bothering her.

3rd panel. "You lied to me about you and Dani," Amber finally says. She looks devastated, stressed out... she has had a long day, and it sounds like there's more ahead.

4th panel. "I'm so disappointed." Amber's final words. We see the effect of her words on Jenna, who looks ready to cry, turning her head away sharply. Maybe she was trying to avoid this situation entirely... maybe she knew it was coming no matter what she did.

End of this part of the comic.

Jenna turns and places a hand on the faucet, retrieving her shirt from the floor. She starts anxiously laughing, while Dani buttons up her jeans in the background and still looks shaken. Jenna hasn't noticed how it's affected her. "Holy shit!! That was crazy close," she says as she starts the water.

2nd panel. "Sorry... looks like I gotta go," Jenna tells Dani, but she's still mostly in her own world. "It's probably about my mom."

She seems to try her best to act cool about it. She has wet her shirt to match the story she gave to her sister. "Haha. Look, it's like you threw up on it."

In the foreground we see Dani has barely moved.

3rd panel. As Jenna puts her shirt back on, Dani can't stifle a little sniff. She's turned to the window, and has started crying.

4th panel. Jenna doesn't know what to do. She leaves the bathroom with just a very muted, "Uh... I'll see you..." We see Dani in the foreground holding herself, tears forming in her eyes. "B- bye..." is all she manages.

Jenna heads downstairs. She looks troubled, and confused. She's worrying if she's done something wrong. We can just about read her shirt - 'SORRY FOR BEING PERFECT'.

In the background: "-so I'll be going to BVC for that in a couple weeks." "Oh wow!" "Jeeez."

2nd panel. Jen's friends stop her as she makes for the back door. We see Amber outside waiting. "OMG, Jen!!" calls the girl hosting the part. "Are you leaving already..? Why's your shirt all wet??"

Jen awkwardly smiles back. "Dani got sick on it. I was helping her."

"Oh wow..." the girl on the left comments.

"Awww, poor Dani!" one girl says. Another chimes in: "You're such a good friend!"

3rd panel. Jenna slides the back door closed and emerges onto the deck at the back of the house.

4th panel. "Got all your stuff?" Jen's sister asks. In the background we see the dimly lit yard of the house, and the street beyond it, as the sun goes down.

"Yeah..." says Jenna. "Is mom freaking out again?"

"Don't say it like that..." mutters Amber.

"Jen..?" Amber calls, knocking on the bathroom door. "You in there?"

She is standing at the top of a staircase now, with the party continuing below. An unknown trio talk behind her.

Inside the bathroom, Jenna rises up suddenly to clasp a hand to Dani's mouth They are partially undressed. Jenna is missing her shirt, Dani has had her shirt pulled up and her jeans tugged down, revealing mismatched underwear. "Mmph!?" comes the first sound from Dani.

"JEN!!" Amber's voice shouts from behind the door. Jenna hisses at Dani to be quiet: "Shh, shh, shh!! That's my sister!! What the f...

3rd panel. Jenna hurries to reply to her sister. "Uhhh, yeah, we're in here!! Be out in a minute-"

At the same time, Dani nervously questions, "You locked the door right..?"

4th panel. They get their answer. The doorknob turns sharply with a click. The door is not locked.

BANG. Jen rushes to intercept the door, but it's too late. She arrives just in time to stop it from opening fully, but Amber's face is right there - and she can see Dani hurriedly dressing herself.

"WOAH!! HEY!!" Jenna basically shouts, trying to block the view. "I said I'd be out!!"

2nd panel. Dani turns around, a mixture of panic and shame clear on her face. She doesn't know what to do, so she just keeps getting dressed.

"Sorry- I just..." Amber says, unsure of what exactly she's interrupted. "You weren't picking up."

"Dani was throwing up!!" Jen hurries to explain. A lie, of course. "Like, everywhere... that's why I didn't answer-"

3rd panel. "What are you doing here anyways?"

Amber explains: "I kinda need you for something urgent."

Jenna is as quick to reply as she can be. "Okay, great!! I'll be right out-"

4th panel. SLAM. She shuts the door as quickly as she can, and her and Dani finally meet eyes in the wake of the chaos.

house party 1/4

Comic by saucypaws, "bad habits" series.

1st panel. Jenna is ushering Dani along into a bathroom.

"Oh my gosh," Dani questions. "What what?"

"C'mooon, trust me, hehe..." Jenna coos back.

"Whyyy?" Dani asks again.

"You'll see, c'mon!" comes the reply.

2nd panel. An intimate close up. Jenna's hand slides under Dani's shirt.

"Jen!!" Dani gasps.

"Hmmm..? What?" Jenna playfully teases.

"Are we seriously..?" Dani murmurs. "Someone's gonna hear... I don't know if we should..."

The third panel shows that this is taking place at a house party. Downstairs, the host of the party talks to an older girl with a bag over her shoulder and a hoodie covering a Tim Hortons uniform. "Amber!! I didn't know you were coming!"

"Uhh, yeah, I'm not..." says Amber. "I need to pick up Jen. She's not answering her phone."

4th panel. Upstrairs, Jenna is pushing up next to Dani's ear. "What if I want you... so fuckin' bad right now?"

"O- oh.." Dani's never heard Jen like this before. "Woah... okay.."

"Here," Lynn says simply. She offers over the electronic part that was in her pocket. Mira doesn't take it. "It's just a simple transceiver," Lynn explains further, and now we know what it is. "If you hold it out to that big sensor there... it will think you're a collector unit."

2nd panel, we see the sensor in question. It appears to be a big cube shaped terminal, hard to distinguish from its surroundings for all the nature reclaiming the area. It has one large green eye, much like the robots in the fields, except this is cracked and worn down.

Mira is instantly suspicious. "Hold up, why don't you do it?" One panel over, Lynn simply replies, "I've already done it before..." but there's more to it.

We see Lynn finally drop the transceiver into Mira's hand. She further reasons: "Also, since these elevators are technically only for the robots to use... we might get in trouble. You're the one with the monitor on your ankle, so it's your call whether or not it's worth the risk."

Mira holds the transceiver and seems to ponder it for a moment, considering the weight of the words she just heard.

In the 2nd panel we see her make her decision through the lens of the scanner itself - a comedically distorted picture of Mira leaning down to present the transceiver to the device. "Nah," she says. "I don't give a shit."

3rd panel, a close up of Mira's hand at the scanner.

"Yeah," comes Lynn's voice, "That's what I thought you'd-"

BZZZZT, sounds the scanner.

She is cut off by two things - the light on top of the scanner coming to life with a bright orange, industrial hue, and Mira leaping backwards. In the bottom row of panels we see Mira, thoroughly spooked, clutching her own shirt, accidentally bumping into Lynn's chest. POMPF.

Mira looks bashfully up at a very deadpan Lynn behind her, and immediately shimmies away. She averts her case, blushing all the while. "S- sorry..."

Eventually, she hands back the transceiver part. Lynn's voice overlays: "It's fine."

4th panel. We see a very sheepish Mira still blushing. "So, um... that quieter place you mentioned before... that's what's at the top, right? Of this, um... thing."

Last panel. "Yes," Lynn answers bluntly. "Now get on, already... it's going to leave without you."

Mira immediately scrambles to heed her orders. "O- oh, right... my bad."

"Huh?" begins Mira, as she walks behind Lynn. She is glancing over to coils of razor wire in the foreground. "There's so much random junk lying around. Why does it look so abandoned up here?"

"Nobody ever comes here anymore," Lynn replies. "The 'random junk' has been here since the domes got taken back from Avara. Those rich assholes tried everything to keep anyone from getting inside. There's a mess like this at most of the other exits, too."

The gate is visible behind Lynn in the background.

"Exits..?" Mira asks, her ears suddenly pricking up. "Are we getting out of here?"

Lynn is quick to reply with a very curt, "No. We'd freeze to death. It's easy to forget in here... but this is one of the coldest places left on the planet. We're going up, not out."

A wider shot shows Lynn glancing down at some kind of machine or terminal while Mira looks over at a derelict looking lift system.

"In that thing..?" Mira questions. "Um, is that safe? It doesn't look like something made for people."

Bottom left panel, Lynn is pulling something free from her pocket while Mira looks only slightly concerned.

"You're right," comes Lynn's voice. "That's why I brought this."

We see what was in Lynn's pocket - some kind of electronic part, a board perhaps, with wires dangling. A part of something bigger.

"What the hell is that..?" asks Mira.

blueberries pt. 4 pg. 1-2

First page of part 4 of the comic series "blueberries" by saucypaws.

The page opens where Part 3 left off, Mira and Lynn are going somewhere during the dome's night cycle.

1st panel, an exasperated out-of-breath Mira, illuminated by the dome's artificial moonlight, complains: "When... you said... you wanted... to go somewhere quiet..."

2nd panel, we see a closeup of Lynn's face, but she is not speaking, she is just blankly leading Mira along.

3rd panel. Mira looks back over her shoulder and we see the main house lit up in the darkness, where they were in the previous comic. They have clearly gone quite a way up the hill away from it. Mira continues: "I didn't think... we'd be going... so freaking far..!"

4th panel. Mira keeps on stumbling after Lynn, who is casually walking along without much trouble. "Just where the hell are we going!?" Mira calls after her. We see the edge of the lower dome wall in the background, and trees and foliage in the foreground.

Lynn looks back over her shoulder as she walks, with a little smile. "It's a secret," she confidently tells Mira.

2nd panel. We see faint texture, stone perhaps, and some foliage. ""I don't want to spoil the surprise."

3rd panel. "But... I think you'll like it," Lynn says. We suddenly see they have reached the edge of the dome wall, where there is some kind of door, broken and disused and half-open. A smashed concrete chunk forms a kind of barrier, and there is junk lying around the place - a heavy duty tyre, a barrel and some spare roofing on the right, and a broken chain link fence on the left. The grass has overgrown. The wall has broken quite badly in places, revealing some kind of rebar underneath.

Lynn and Mira stand in the foreground, looking on at the scene. An old worn-out yellow sign above the door reads "LOADING BAY 2", and there is some kind of industrial tracked lift to the left of the gate.

things left unsaid

Comic in the "bad habits" series by saucypaws. Page 1 of 4.

1st panel. The girls are silent in the car. It's snowing outside, growing darker. Jen is driving with a deadpan expression. Dani sits, her head against her hand, staring out the window and lost in her thoughts which we hear via text.

'Man... come on, Jen. This is so awkward,' Dani laments internally. 'She really hasn't calmed down... I don't get it.'

2nd & 3rd panels. Warmer colours, different clothes. Still in the same car, but this is the past. Dani leans across and looks flirty. Jen puts the car in park. Dani's thoughts from the present: 'Well... I mean, maybe I do. I haven't been all that honest with myself..."

We see Dani in Jen's lap in the driver's seat. They kiss and hold onto each other. 'About those kinds of moments... about a lot of things.'

4th panel. Present day, Dani looks sadly at Jen, who refuses to return it. 'I know why /you're/ upset,' Dani admits inside. "'Cause I am too... even if I shouldn't be."

Page 2 of 4. 1st panel. Dani puts her hand on Jenna's thigh. 'You never wanna talk about this kind of stuff...' her thoughts go on, 'so I don't know how else to say it. I don't want to lose-"

She catches herself and corrects her internal monologue. 'I don't want things to change..'

2nd & 3rd panels. Back in the past, we see the intimacy between Jen and Dani intensify as Dani begins to undress her. They press against each other, breathing hard. Before long, Dani is kissing her neck. 'I really wish I could just tell you...' thinks present day Dani. 'How much you really mean to me...'

4th panel. '...and how much I hate making you sad.'

We see Jenna in the present is clearly being affected by the hand on her thigh. Even though nothing has been said out loud, with everything that has happened, it suddenly brings so much emotion to the surface. She struggles to keep her composure, even staring straight ahead. Her jaw tightens. She might erupt in anger or burst into tears.

1st panel. We are back in the past for the whole of this page, but the colours have become drastically warmer, redder and darker all around. We see Dani and Jenna getting closer, panting face to face, sharing desperate breaths.

'And no matter how wrong it is...' Dani's thoughts from the present continue. 'I wish we could be the way we were.'

2nd and 3rd panels. Jenna undresses Dani and they reach the peak of their intimacy in the car, both naked and entangled. 'I really did mean it... back then, when I said...'

4th panel. We see an abstract, zoomed in shot of the two girls in their closest moment. A red light bleeds into the panel from behind, but the cold of the present almost completely envelops it. We get the last of Dani's final thoughts, echoing from the present day, but we can be sure that they came out of her mouth in the past too...

"...I love you."

Page 4 of 4. We crash back to the present day and all warmth gives way to cold.

1st panel. We see an external shot of Jenna's car, specifically the rear quarter. The brake light is glowing red. Tire marks in the snow and clouds from the exhaust tell us that the car has come to a sudden stop. The light from the day has almost completely faded... it is the darkest it has been.

2nd panel. Dani looks startled, completely shocked out of her thoughts. She has one hand braced on the dash, and is looking wide-eyed towards the driver's side.

3rd panel. We don't see all of Jenna's face, but we see enough. Tears have begun to streak down her face. One hand is flattened against the steering wheel, the other makes a futile attempt to hide her sadness. Finally, she speaks.

"Get the fuck out."

4th panel. Dani stands outside, by the side of a very snowy road and gripping her arm. We see the car disappearing into the distance. A gas station sits nearby, just across the way. Snowflakes fall.

doing it anyways

A comic in the "bad habits" series by saucypaws. This is page 1 of 3.

1st and 2nd panels. We see two girls (Dani and Jenna) sharing a couch watching music television in comfortable clothes and pyjamas. There are cans of drinks and snacks lying on the table in front of them, and Dani is cradling a big bowl of popcorn. On the TV, we see the lead singer of a band, who has plenty of piercings on show.

3rd panel. "I wanna get piercings," says Dani. "My mom won't let me... I should do it anyway." She leans back against Jenna, who looks surprised.

4th panel. Jenna blushes and looks away. Dani keeps on talking. "I think I have enough saved... hey, why's your heart beating so fast?"

1st panel. "It's really not.." says Jenna, suddenly embarrassed, but Dani quickly responds with glee, leaning even more against her friend.

"It totally is, I can feel it! Maybe you're having a stroke like Mr. Nelson," she says, not leaving any time in between sentences. "Do you smell burnt toast? Why are you being so quiet?"

2nd panel. Jenna breaks from her previous uncomfortable stoic pose and squirms. "I don't know!!" she whines. "Why are you naking it weird?"

3rd panel. A moment of silence. Dani blushes this time now, seemingly thinking something over.

4th panel. When Dani speaks again, it's with much less flippancy and excitement. "...is it because of that stuff we did?" she asks, looking guilty. She curls up a little and dips her head, almost hiding behind the popcorn bowl, so much so that she tilts it and ends up spilling some. "Sorry... we probably shouldn't talk about it, eh?"

1st panel. Neither of the girls can look each other in the eye. They both seem shy about what has just been referenced. "Um... yeah... I guess not," Jenna nervously replies to Dani. "But like... why..? Was it like... bad for you?"

2nd panel. "No..." Dani mumbles, still averting her eyes. "I'm just not like that... y'know?"

3rd panel. After a little pause, they finally look back at each other. "But it was pretty cooool..." Dani admits.

4th panel. The two girls finally meet eyes for real. Dani tilts her head back, Jenna looks down. There are no words shared between them, but they seem to share an understanding.

engagement

A two page comic by saucypaws in the "bad habits" series. Both pages have four panels.

We see a group of friends admiring an engagement ring on somebody else's hand (Dani, out of view). The friends are also anthropomorphic canines, a beagle with glasses and a floral top and a wolf girl hanging over the back of the couch.

2nd panel. We see more of the room. There is another friend leaning in to see the ring. We now see Dani on the couch looking somewhat sheepish in a stripey black and red shirt - and in the chair across from all of them we see Jenna, sat alone.

3rd panel. Jenna stares back blankly, looking very unhappy with the scene. In the foreground, out of focus, we see two of the friends still excitedly talking to Dani. We do not see/hear any of their dialogue.

4th panel. Dani looks back at Jenna, perhaps finally confronting her stare. She instantly looks remorseful. A bubble of off-screen dialogue reads "I was gonna tell you..." - leading us into the next page.

This is the second page of the comic. We skip outside, and some time has passed. Jenna has left in a hurry, and Dani is just barely getting her hoodie on as she comes outside. Jenna is stood by her car, a 90s Chevrolet wagon painted maroon. An Alberta license plate is just barely hanging onto the front fender.

"Hold on..! I really was..." Dani insists. "Jen... are you mad at me?"

2nd panel. Jen turns halfway to face Dani. "Why would I be mad?" she asks, though the frustration on her face makes it clear she is more upset than she is willing to admit. "Everyone's happy for you. I'm glad you figured it all out."

3rd panel. Dani stands with her arms folded uncomfortably, shifting on the spot. "Oh... okay... yeah, cool, cool." There is clearly more on her mind, but she has a hard time expressing it. "I just, um, well- yeah... if you like, don't wanna come to Mel's anymore, I get it. Could I still get a ride?"

4th panel. Jenna doesn't look at Dani anymore. She simply admits defeat. "Yeah... sure."

A comic following up on the previous post "bad habits" by saucypaws.

1st panel. Dani is laying down inside a tent on a warmly lit evening, taking an unlit cigarette from Jenna's hand. They are both underneath a blanket. "Are you sure..?" comes Jenna's voice. "You don't have to just cuz' I do. It's nothing to write home about." Dani responds, "No, yeah, I know... I've always wanted to try."

2nd panel. Dani lights the cigarette. She has not realised that the cigarette is backwards in her mouth. Neither has the girl next to her.

3rd panel. Dani's coughing fills the tent, along with Jenna's laughter. "Hahaha, what the hell??" she giggles. "You suck at this!! How did you have it the wrong way around??". "Ugh!!" Dani retches. "Why didn't you tell me?!"

4th panel. Jenna is face to face with Dani, brushing her hair from her face. Both are blushing, within sudden kissing distance. "Because..." Jenna smirks. "I was too busy looking at you." Dani looks suddenly captivated. "Oh... okay..."

bad habits

An original comic depicting two female twenty-somethings. They are anthropomorphic canines, one with blonde hair (Jenna) and golden brown fur and the other with grey fur and darker black hair (Dani).

The scene begins in a coldly lit bedroom.Jenna sits on the bed by the open window with a lit cigarette trailing smoke outside. We see snow on the street below and on the branches of trees. Clothes lie strewn about the room, pillows and bedsheets are displaced. Dani is also on the bed, sitting up, and calling out - "Hey..."

2nd panel. Jenna has a sad, distant look on her face. Dani has two symmetrical piercings below her lower lip. Smoke goes trailing by, along with a light dusting of snowflakes in the air. "Pass that over again," Dani says.

3rd panel. The cigarette changes hands, but now we see that Dani is actually wearing a ring. "Didn't I tell you..." Jenna warns. "...not to get addicted..?"

4th panel. No dialogue but Dani wears a sad, contemplative expression after hearing Jenna.

A bonus illustration for the previously posted comic strip "insecurities" by saucypaws. Whitney, a tall, athletic horse girl with brown hair tied back in a ponytail, stands next to her girlfriend Pepper, a shorter and curvier calico cat. They are dressed for the date that was alluded to in the previous comic - Whitney is wearing a maroon blazer and slacks to match, and Pepper has put on the green velvet dress that she was previously deliberating whether or not to wear. Pepper has a small shoulder bag with a horseshoe on it and Whitney is closing the door behind them, looking relieved. "Phew!" she exclaims to Pepper. "Hey... I think we might actually make it."

Page 10: Whitney turns Pepper back towards the mirror and the two embrace as they look at the reflection together. Whitney is smiling again, while Pepper can't keep a frown at bay when she looks at her own form once again. "When you look at me, you don't see anything wrong. That's how I look at you too," Whitney explains. "All I see right now is beautiful. And I happen to love how round your face is, so..." - Pepper immediately winces. although Whitney nuzzles against her neck affectionately, Pepper looks on the verge of being hurt. "Hey... don't joke... that's not fair..." - but finally, Whitney brings her head back up to reassure her, "You know I'd never."

Page 11: Whitney looks over Pepper. "You don't look any different," she says. "From when I fell for you... I dunno, you could never embarrass me." We see Pepper blushing and looking genuinely moved, and now even Whitney is getting sheepish, with a hand on the back of her head. "Honestly- I got pretty excited about seeing you wear it again..." - Pepper cuts in, she has picked up her dress and is holding it up once more. "Ok, ok... Then I guess I don't wanna let you down."

Page 12: "You're gonna look amazing," Whitney reassures Pepper, as Pepper moves to pick up the clothes hanger from the floor as well. Whitney leans in with a wry, cheeky grin, looking suddenly flirtatious. "Though I'm liking the way you look out of it, too..." - Pepper, although clearly flattered, laughs nervously. "We're gonna be so late..." she reminds her girlfriend, who looks immediately shocked - clearly she has forgotten the two of them are, in fact, meant to be hurrying up. A small handwritten note confirms this: "(She forgot about that part)."

Page 8. One large central panel depicts Whitney and Pepper, the latter of whom is startled. Whitney's face is almost touching Pepper's, wide eyed with concern, trying to level with her. Pepper's hands have been clasped together inside of one of Whitney's, while the horse girl's other hand gently rests on Pepper's face. "Hey..." she says, commanding but caring, "Don't talk about yourself like that..."

Page 9. Whitney pulls back just a little bit, but doesn't break eye contact for second. "There's a lot I don't like about myself either..." she starts, and the comic shows us some little doodles of her own insecurities, which she is bringing up not to focus on but to include as part of a larger point. An illustration shows a comically realistic horse face with goofy pronounced teeth. "I think my teeth are way too big when I smile," says Whitney. "My eyes are too far apart." - Another doodle shows Whitney taller than everyone around her in a crowd. "And I really don't like my proportions either. If you ask me, I'm gangly and weird looking... But you don't think any of this about me, do you?" - Pepper leans into Whitney's hand, beginning to understand. "No..." she acknowledges softly.

Page 6. "No way!" Whitney blurts out, in genuine surprise. "You looked so good in it when we picked it out!" - "Yeah... I know..." Pepper sighs. "But..." - We then focus visually on the parts of Pepper that she herself is focused on. "My face is too round..." she complains. We see her back, her legs and her belly. "I definitely put on weight, ugh... I'm gonna look like a bean bag.

Page 7. Pepper once again can't look Whitney in the eyes, but she tries her very hardest to be honest. "I just don't wanna embarrass you." Whitney looks suddenly concerned. "It's ok, you know?" Pepper sadly adds, "I can wear it another time." - Then suddenly, the dress clatters to the ground. Pepper is spun around to face her girlfriend by a sudden but gentle force.

Page 4. "Huh?" Whitney questions Pepper. "Why? What's wrong with it?" Leaning almost playfully against her partner's back, she doesn't fully understand what the problem is, and is much more focused on the fact they are going to be late for their booking. "C'mon, we're gonna be late..." - But Pepper is frozen in place. At least now, she turns her head to look back, "Nothing's wrong with it..." she murmurs, but she is beginning to explain the true nature of her problem.

Page 5. "It's, um..." Pepper nervously continues. "It's a really nice dress." - Whitney turns her head downwards for her girlfriend, content to take a pause and listen. "Yeah... so what's up?" - "I think it's me that's the problem," Pepper states bluntly. She is again staring at herself in the mirror, and hating what she sees, holding a hand self-consciously over her stomach.

"No way in hell we get a refund this time... Babe, we might be cooked." - Only then does she notice, over her shoulder, her girlfriend hasn't moved the entire time. "Babe?

Page 3. "You're not dressed yet..?" Whitney asks, coming over to stand behind Pepper and see what's going on. "Is there something wrong with the dress?" - Finally, Pepper responds with a glum: "Um... I don't think I can wear this tonight...". Her eyes have sunk low, unable to look either Whitney or herself in the eyes.

This is the first page of a multi-panel 12 page comic strip by saucypaws, featuring two anthropomorphic female characters: Pepper, a shorter, curvy calico cat with short hair, and Whitney, a taller, athletic horse girl with longer hair. Both characters are getting ready to go out somewhere and are wearing just their underwear. The comic aims to depict a tender moment relating to body image and insecurity.

Pepper is standing in front of a full-length mirror, looking at herself while holding up a green velvet strapless dress as if she is unsure whether or not she wants to put it on or not.
