Last month, when the temps were truly testing my Nordic sensibilities, we invested in a mobile AC unit (currently second best buy of 2026!!). I'm working from home (I have a fab employer) and mentioned to Him Indoors about turning the AC on today, and he said, "Have fun using the Breeze Block." 😂😂

Well done to England - so pleased it didnt end in a penalties situation for them - seen way too many of those, and the subsequent fall out in the media! 🫣😬 Super proud of how far Norway went in the World Cup - they knocked out Brazil, which was amazing!! 💪🏻⚽️🇳🇴❤️ Hopefully we see them at the Euros?! 🤞🏻

Things I'm grateful for... Cutting my long hair four weeks ago. Long hair and hot summers don't mix well! These fancy cooling cloths... whoever developed that technology, bravo! I know they're aimed at the sports world, but I'm having me some of that! Mobile aircon... praise all the gods!!

Me, with my shorter hair, hunkered down next to my mobile AC unit, wearing a bathing suit and draped in a green cooling cloth - technology is a marvellous thing, sometimes!

Thanks! Despite having AC, I'm not looking forward to Friday and Saturday! The humidity levels can be very muggy. A dry heat I can cope with, but schwitzen exhausts me... had enough of hot flashes to last a lifetime without this weather!! 😭🥵

Today we enjoyed a lunch out in Frankfurt with some friends - gorgeous day, as evidenced by that blue sky, and our meal at Zum Schwarzen Stern was top notch, as per usual! He went for the Schweinshaxe and I opted for their summer offering of grilled octopus with jasmine rice instead of gnocchi.

Good Bank Holiday morning everyone, It's a beautiful Whit Monday/Pfingstmontag, a day of peace and quiet here in Das Dorf. It's the last of the May Feiertage, with one last one next week, and then we're done until October. Birdsong, sunshine and coffee is getting my day started - enjoy your day! 🤗

Sunshine seen through dappled green leaves. This view is from my balcony, which faces east. Many of my neighbours have tall trees in their back gardens, so it creates a lovely leafy screen against the direct sunlight, which will hit the balcony once the sun rises high enough.

In the foreground are several of my balcony boxes, filled with colourful plants, including fuchsia, petunias, osteospermum (African daisies).

View looking north east. The neighbour with the orange canopy recently cut down the tree in their back garden, so now we have this view. The neighbours next door to them have installed some solar panels on their balcony (very popular here in Germany), and I'm wondering whether it's worth doing here. Every little helps, as they say, and we already utilise solar to power our balcony watering system, which helps keep our plant boxes healthy and in bloom. Our little bird table is also just visible, and we often get birds having a quick snack!

Morning coffee on the balcony... summer is definitely on its way! This is my favourite place to start the day, as I get treated to birdsong, and I can enjoy the sunlight through the trees, before it gets too hot and sunny!

Our cat, Haggis, is delighted that her cat-io is now open 24/7, seeing as the outdoor temps are conducive to us leaving the balcony door open all the time. 😻 Stay cool, wherever you may be, and remember to stay hydrated! 💦🧋

Pictured is a small section of our balcony, which we have converted into a fenced off cat shelter, for the cat to enjoy during the warmer summer months, as the balcony gets the morning sun, so is generally quite cool once the sun has passed overhead. The fencing also has netting attached, to help keep out the unwanted insects, including flies and mosquitoes. The permanently open door also means we get to hear the birds song during the day, the sound of passing trains along the Riedbahn, flights heading south from Frankfurt Airport, and my favourite - the nightly frog chorus from the nearby stream! *ribbit*

Listed daytime and nighttime temperatures for the next week - highest highs of 34°C and overnight temps between 13°C and 17°C. Summer is here!

I have bad news and good news. The bad news is I only have three weeks left to veg at home in sweatpants, blaring my music loud to annoy the upstairs neighbour. The good news is I've been offered a job, so my loud music will only be played on Friday nights and Saturdays. The neighbour is happy.
