Married to my love. Trans rights are human rights! Love our kids, pets, old houses, and demolition. Known for dinner, sewing, gardening, occasionally knitting but always sarcasm and sass.
Tomato harvest has begun in earnest. I have to harvest them slightly early so the critters don’t get to them first.
We got to visit Stonemountain and Daughter fabric store in Berkley and I would have spent a whole lot of money there but someone in our group had to use a bathroom and there were no public ones in the store. So… provide bathrooms and get more money 💰.
We had a very nice trip to SF. The temperatures were very mild, low humidity and it’s taken three days for my legs to recover. We walked over 30 miles.
The first tomato of the year! It’s going to be a bumper crop this year if I can keep the critters away. Last year they took one bite out of every almost ripe tomato so now I pick them a little early.
The air quality is so high it broke the chart. The smoke is coming in around the doors and it smells bad. I’ve got the air purifiers on max and my inhaler ready.
The latest dining room update, we are down to the studs and we are now in a holding pattern until the new windows can be manufactured. New wood windows are expensive! 6-8 weeks until delivery if all goes well. #oldhouselove
We are back in the entryway today putting the trim back together. I still can not believe how incredibly close I got to the original paint color, the drips are the original paint. I wasn’t even aware the original color until after I had bought the paint and pulled off the trim. #oldhouselove
Today was shellac day! I have one or two more coats tomorrow and all the entryway trim will go back up. It looks much oranger in this photo then it is because it’s sunset.
Dining room Day Four progress. My love got all the plaster, lath and structure down from the original soffit and next is removing the plaster on the left and the scratch coat on the right. We need to make a decision on what window we want. Celebrating the Holiday just like we normal. #oldhouselove
It’s been decided that the wall is not structured enough so the soffit including the original plaster over what was a built in has to come down. The silver lining is we’ll be able to insulate it right. #oldhouselove
#oldhouselove My shellac is arriving today, tomorrow I can start finishing the oak trim I have been stripping for the last four months! Then I can paint and make a new coat hook and the vestibule will be complete. There’s still a hole in the kitchen ceiling and the dining room to deal with.
Day two progress. The left hand side of this wall is actually plywood with plaster over it. The wood floors do not run under where the original built in was. It appears the original window, the left area, had a window seat.
#oldhouselove the newest project is demo of our dining room built ins. For some reason they ripped out the original built in and moved the window. The drawers stick and the left hand cabinet is made of scrap material. Our plan is to reframe and replace the window and maybe put new cabinets in.
We’ll be out here all day. The high today is 75f or 24c, starting tomorrow it will be over 90f or 32c so we’ll be moving to inside projects.
Our best bud had two mast cell cysts removed on Monday, he’s doing well and his pathology report came back great. Unfortunately he has 47 staples he has to have removed at the end of next week, but in the meantime he’s sporting a brand new inflatable donut collar and looking cute.
The best morning. I’m rereading my favorite book and just started it last night and am already 40% done which is sad because I want to stay in this world with Lucifer, Talia and Chauncey. I highly recommend it if you like sweet easy reads with magical kids and a hint of a love story.
#memademay fail! I made the nicest pair of Pietra shorts because I’m in desperate need of shorts and realized right before I hemmed them that the old pattern I used was a size 4 for my daughter from her teens, she’s 28 now and not my size 14. 🤣
At some point in life you realize you are just to old for this shit. I got the second of four raised beds in today and god does my body hurt
#oldhouselove folks you’re looking at all our entryway trim. I painted it and now I’m stripping it back to the lovely oak it is. So stupid. Have you ever done the easy thing instead of the right thing? I deeply regret painting our trim on the main floor instead of learning how to fix the crawling.
I highly recommend sitting on a vacant beach in the upper Midwest with a love one with no cell service in April.
Hey #oldhouselove folks! We were going to lipstick this pig on the basement bathroom for our sons Uni graduation but then of coarse we started digging and ugh. Now I’m repointing brick.
In today’s #oldhouselove I am ignoring the hole in the kitchen ceiling and repainting the stairs stripe with a leftover paint color from the hallway trim dilemma. It’s perfect here.
What’s up #oldhouselove friends. I unfortunately found a wet area on our kitchen ceiling and now I have a 2ft x 2ft hole. It appears it’s coming from the toilet waste pipe but it is totally dry now. My thought is there is a small leak when the toilet gets plunged which is more often than it should.
#oldhouselove I was thinking of painting our vestibule dark red and then today while painting the ceiling I “accidentally” knocked off the plaster skim coat they put on over the original plaster and looky there, it’s dark red.
My poor pup would like everyone to know that anti anxiety meds and a thundershirt are still not enough.
In other #oldhouselove news we finally decided on a paint color for the trim in the upstairs hallway after six colors. I am so over grey! Thanks to Skeldale house on All Creatures Great & Small we went with a buttery beige called Sandy Pail. I still like the blue but it was just to dark.
