Alan Splet (1939–1994) was David Lynch's sound designer for Eraserhead, The Elephant Man, Dune, and Blue Velvet. Due to being legally blind, Splet rarely traveled and mainly worked from Berkeley, California. Lynch believed sound was at least 50% of the film experience and Splet was his guy. #lynch

We did this by projecting a moving graphic with an Epson digital projector over actress @zoecalista.bsky.social during filming. I made the helmet (one of 3).
I shot this in a hotel room. I only used the mannequin head & shoulders with the 33 mask over it. In the full shot I used a syringe to pull silver paint (his blood) from a plastic bottle I had mounted under his neck. MANY takes were required. #props #filmsky #filmmaker
