AN interactive map has revealed that developers are proposing a rash of AI data centres right across Scotland – prompting concerns about the impact on electricity prices, communities and the environment.

Eighteen projects are looking for planning permission with a further six in the pipeline, according to Scottish countryside charity APRS which has published the map.

The charity is calling on the Scottish Government to implement a moratorium on the centres until there is a “proper “assessment of the impacts on the electricity grid, climate emissions and communities.

Hyperscale data centres are some of the biggest buildings in the world and this is why we are seeing them being proposed mainly on greenbelt and greenfield sites,” said Kat Jones of APRS. “Their main requirements are large quantities of land and access to huge amounts of electricity and water. These buildings are huge but the amount of energy they use is absolutely off the scale.”

She said the total demand for energy from the data centres in Scotland’s planning system is now 6200MW, which along with the requirement for the six sites that haven’t reached planning stage yet would take the total to over 11,000MW – nearly three times Scotland’s winter peak demand.

Campaigners are concerned about rising energy prices as they have soared up to 267% in US areas with data centres, according to the Bloomberg data and media company. This is an inconceivable amount of energy that Scotland is being asked to divert to the use of hyperscale AI data centres, which will enrich a few billionaires in Silicon valley at the expense of the Scottish consumer,” said Jones.

“No discussion on energy in Scotland can ignore the impact that these data centres would have on our electricity grid and energy prices.

“We are calling for a moratorium to get some proper planning and policies in place.”

On our walk today, we startled some deer, as usual Fergus went to investigate. Last time he did that he found fresh deer poo and proceed to roll on it. This time I went over to see what had caught his interest, a baby deer! It was lying so quiet and still. We left quickly to allow parents to return.

Photo of the baby deer curled up on the grass. It was beautiful, although maybe a bit frightened having this animal sniffing around it. My dog Fergus is always curious about animals that don’t do what they usually do, which is run or fly away.

Yesterday I was in the garden and Fergus came out. Usually sleeps in the sun. He saw something move behind a wire fence but he couldn’t reach it. Wouldn’t move, seemed convinced it was still there, stood watching for 45 minutes, then lay down for another 45, finally growled, got up and stormed off.

A NEW report has found that almost half of UK media coverage contains anti-
Muslim bias.
The large-scale study from the Centre for Media Monitoring (CIMM) has found widespread and systemic anti-Muslim bias across British media in 2025, with a cluster of right-wing outlets responsible for the most severe and persistent harmful coverage.
Analysing 40,913 articles published across 30 major news outlets, the report finds that nearly 50% of all articles about Muslims in the UK contained measurable bias.
In total, around 20,000 pieces were found to include varying degrees of bias.
Across all articles analysed, 70%
contained information
associating
Muslims or Islam with negative aspects or behaviours.
While negative stories about Muslims and Islam are not inherently bi-ased, the report said the scale of this figure suggests a widespread pattern in which Muslims are frequently portrayed through the lens of conflict, threat or controversy.
The study also identified a distinct cluster of right-wing
outlets
that consistently produced the most biased coverage of Muslims, including The Spectator, GB News, The Telegraph, Jewish Chronicle, Daily Express, The Sun, Daily Mail and The Times.
The report said The Spectator showed
the highest
concentra-
tion of severe bias, with more than one in four of its articles classified as
"very biased", representing the
most extreme
anti-Muslim
fram-
ing in the UK media landscape proportionally.

May's Holyrood election, a noticeable shift is set to take place in the nation's
political landscape. Reform UK - a party once incredibly marginal in Scottish politics - is often polling second, ahead of both Labour and the Conservatives.
A YouGov Holyrood poll last month, for example, had Nigel Farage's party on 20% on both the constituency and list vote, with Professor John Curtice's projection putting them on about 23 seats.
In 2021, Reform - then under the leadership of Richard Tice - picked up just 1% of the regional vote share.
While most of these gains - if the polling turns out to be correct
- would be on the list, there are a number of constituency seats in which Reform UK are serious challengers, if not favourites.

Starmer signals supportfor a US attack on Iran

KEIR Starmer has signalled he would support the US if it were to attack Iran.
Speaking to reporters during his trip to China, the Prime Minister said it was "hugely important" that Iran did not build nuclear weapons and said that the Islamic Republic's brutal crackdown on protesters was "grotesque".
US president Donald Trump said that a "massive armada" was being ranged in the Gulf as he warned the Iranian regime that "time is running out" to negotiate a deal on its nuclear programme.
Asked in a BBC interview if he would support a US strike on Iran, Starmer said: "The goal or the aim here is that Iran shouldn't be able to develop nuclear weapons and that is hugely important and, of
course, we need to deal with the fact they are repressing protesters, killing protesters, it is grotesque what is happening so that is where our focus is and we are working with allies to that end."
Pressed on whether that meant his answer was "perhaps yes", the Prime Minister said: "| am saying we support the goal and we are talking to allies about how we get to that goal." Starmer did not refer to de-escalation, which he has previously invoked when asked about potential American military action in the region.
Iran's foreign minister Abbas Araghchi has said the country's armed forces were ready "with their fingers on the trigger" to
"immediately and powerfully respond" to aggression from the US.
Anti-regime protests in Iran were met with a brutal response from the authorities beginning at the end of December.
The US-based Human Rights
Activists News Agency said that 6301 people were killed during the unrest, including 5925 protesters.
Trump had previously
threatened to attack Iran if the country killed protesters however his attention has since returned to the country's nuclear programme.
The US bombed Iran last year during the country's short war with Israel.

This is really cute. During the summer swallows nested and one joist along usually wrens or bluetits nest. In the winter a wren or bluetit usually roosts in the nest till spring. This winter a little young family, maybe from a late summer clutch, have taken up residence and cuddle up each night. 😊
