Helping a friend for a few days. Goose (actual name) is unhappy with my proximity, and these two goobers, Cali and Kat have taken the best seat in the house.

This morning the sun was behind so much haze on Lake Champlain. I can hardly see the Greens and usually they are very clear. Odd weather.

Last night’s anchorage was at Barn Rock, the southern end of the Split Rock preserve. Palisades are in the middle, and here is the actual Split Rock at the north end, with link to interesting history and the trails system. Several campsites only accessible by water and kayak or canoe.

In the category of “what doesn’t kill you…” these teens anchored, swam to the cliff face, climbed 50+ft without any protection and then jumped off the other side and swam back. I offered them life jackets when they went by. They said no, but their Moms would appreciate me asking. 😂

The ride up the Otter Creek was brutal from the heat. We met some filks who have an electric diesel hybrid powered 1980 trawler they re-engined - it’s silent. About a 50nm cruising range.

Cole Island. Sanctuary from the heat. Me: OMG a Kingfisher, LOOK! Merlin: Sandpiper, Sandpiper, Sandpiper. 😅 Zoey is very independent for her land explore, I’m just the waiting uber, it’s too hot for me to navigate slippery rocks this evening.

Button Island is a favorite, on the VT side across from Westport NY. Uninhabited with the prettiest daisy lined picnic spot.

Our kayak on the rock slab shore behind dark and light green foliage. The landing is stupid slippery but avoids a lot of poison ivy.

The south edge of the island with few trees and lots of happy daisies. Adirondacks are in the distance with the sun peaking in on the right. The water is calm. It’s perfect picnic spot.

On the way to the picnic spot is a campfire ring in a clearing. Many of the trees here are oaks.

Big changes coming. We are emptying and selling the house. Gonna miss the yard and all of it. Tenant is not into gardening so the flower beds are an overgrown shitshow, but a few things don’t mind the lack of attention. The peonies and indigo could takeover the world 😅.
