After the Flee I went to the Microcenter to get a few parts for a family member and met this cool cat in the checkout line. He is 1month old.
Also checkout my folding workbench with pegboard and light for doing messy mechanical things in the garage. It's still a bit of a work in progress.
I also got this controller for a wire bonding robot. I hope to at least reuse the chassis.
A quick thread about what I got at the MIT Ham Radio Flee Market today. First a box of fire bricks. #Swapfest #bostonweekend For more events follow @knizer@toot.boston on mastodon
In my home office showing off my freshly reworked hair. (Thanks Val)
I gave public comment again at the @mbta.com board. This time supporting Mass Senior Action who just want to use their carts to carry groceries home on The Ride. Also opposing the MBTA's opposition to over head wire w/Garrett Wollman Is it a "selfie" if I am just taking a still out of a live feed?
Wait is this what is happening in engineering schools? Serious side note: could we convince RFK Jr this isn't a joke so he works to increase the to gender mix in STEM that would be great too.
Never forget that we are burning Canada one mile of driving at a time. (The national version of this chart is basically the same message)
Can someone please explain why the Sierra Club of Mass is legitimizing this AI slop proposal that included a bad map that can't even get the existing system right and is from a guy who actively created it to distract from an already funded and well designed bus lane? Seriously from his facebook
I am now picturing David from "Everyone Else Burns" imagining a TV show called "Parcel Force"
It shows the distribution yes but more importantly it shows how wide of a range of coverage has been offered. Ask yourself how many of those 12 year buses were proterra? MBTA is getting 7 year from New Flyer and I know Transdev is getting 5 in their rapid en-route charged buses.
If we stop this before they do Arborway we would be in a good place. We could do a public call for people to write / call in and make public comment on the CIP, Focus 50, and the next board meeting to request trolley buses. With a friend I managed to get them to start taking board comments remotely.
Please respect the new trains more. I don't like crrc and I don't like the war crimes being committed by our country right now but this isn't fixing anything.
@transitmatters.bsky.social yes it's continuing but with very serious problems that I have been warning them about for years. The buses are failing in NYC among other places and the costs are you once projected are going to lead to service cuts. @mbta.com admitted it youtu.be/qV_s9mMG0C8 1/
peppermint narwal creative reminder: Today is world Pangolin Day!
So yes it did take from 2021 to now but it's important to understand that this is an example of how an integrated internal engineering team can do things quickly and as a side effect more cheaply too. So we should see this accelerate. Slide from the board presentation. 2/
2021 vs 2026 @mbta.com fixed the column I made famous with help from @mayahoman.bsky.social and @bostonglobe.com It was featured in one of board presentations in a list of projects that was made possible in less time by the creation of an internal engineering team. 1/🧵
Your's is cooler but mine won't wake anyone up in the middle of the night. (from my 2nd desk at the old job, originally paired to a PDP)
I found one of the cats posed here on his own. I am unsure what I caught him doing but I have concerns. Hopefully he can banish ICE & the whole republican party supporting them to another dimension.
Only on gentoo linux would updating the firmware flashing utility require you to rebuild inkscape and libreoffice. (to be fair I guess I should have built the fw updating tools when I started and not after I setup everything else) #gentoo #overcompiled
@mbta.com how many doors are #2 aka "differed maintenance" on your vehicles? I am looking at NTSB #RRD24FR017 Part 27 "MECHANICAL - MAINTENANCE RECORDS" & all I can think of are all the times I have been on a train while the operator struggled to get the doors closed. data.ntsb.gov/Docket/?NTSB...
Yes electronics industry I would like your least evil wire please.
Admittedly the T is going to get 7 years of life out of the batteries but they will be needing a rebuild (really a replacement then). Keep in mind we don't have a recycling plan as yet. These are from my next video on the subject.
Ok so to make a battery bus you basically just add a battery to a trolley bus. The part people miss is how inefficient it is to lug around that battery if you could have just had the overhead wires. This ignores that @MBTA is buying the kind that use a diesel heater. 🧵
