I was aiming for sort of an Unruly Evil meets Dismal Oubliette kind of thing, but I don't think I hit the mark on either one.
Prolific TV writer Katharyn Powers would have turned 83 today. She worked on tons of successful shows, but is probably best known as the writer of the worst episode of Star Trek ever aired AND arguably the worst episode of Stargate. A true pioneer.
I do find myself wishing it was much slower-paced... or involved like a more exploratory loop, so that you had time to take in the sights. Which is essentially wishing it was a different game. Still, I really like it!
Enjoying the hell out of Incision. Gameplay-wise it doesn't do anything that hasn't been done in lots of other retro shooters, but the world is so gross and beautiful that I can't put it down.
I don't usually use Google so I hadn't seen this before, but... 1) the UnMaking has been 40 maps for the vast majority of its existence, 2) there are two maps in the wad so opposite of "compact" that they would break the engine if they were any bigger, and 3) WHAT LORE?
Carmack thinks it's a tragedy when AI doesn't get the love it deserves, but when over a hundred real human people get laid off from the company he created he "can't muster anger or outrage over it."
29 years ago today, the Doom partial conversion STRAIN was released. I can't imagine anything more worth celebrating around this time of year.
Conspiracy theory: Chewy will send you a few dented pet food cans as a trial. If you don't complain right away, every subsequent autoship will be stock that's so mangled they would have had to throw out otherwise.
Sixth map! Though this one is a remake of my first 100-line map from ten (!!!) years ago.
Another map roughed out. But I kinda don't know what to do with this one. I ran out of lines before it really had any progression to speak of.
Trying to get through the mental mapping block I have by just making whatever comes to mind.
"Huge, open area with hardly anything in it" is one of my favorite tropes from early Doom mapping, but that you don't see much of anymore. Nowadays I think prevailing wisdom is to scale stuff like this down or to break it up visually.
There's no room on my lap for his head so I'm just expected to hold it up until he's done snoozing.
I kinda love that this game just rips straight from Link to the Past, right down to the way the map is displayed. The dungeons are just sidescrolling Zelda dungeons. The overworld progression is Zelda. The magitek armor is... well, that's not Zelda I guess.
One more update to The UnMaking! This covers the last of the fixes to known issues from the anniversary update. Very happy with the state of things now. www.doomworld.com/forum/topic/...
