For years I searched for an Indigenous tattoo artist. Finally found one on Vancouver Island who kindly agreed to create a design featuring my favorite #seabird, the #Razorbill (and my Cree heritage) 💕
Over the past week (while on holiday), my husband and I collected #plastic debris from 11 beaches on #vancouverisland. In total, we removed 1546 items (54 kg) which were sorted and entered into a database. Today my Aunty joined me on the beach for a last clean up before flying home 💙
On #VancouverIsland, tourism has overtaken native forest #logging (ugh) as the primary industry. Despite this, the boardwalks at Avatar Grove have not been repaired in 4 YEARS.
We traveled 4 hr to another remote corner of #VancouverIsland with the specific goal of visiting #AvatarGrove. This area was closed to public access in 2022 and sadly, hasn’t been reopened. After much searching, we found the spot.
Spent the weekend restoring a ~100 year old lead-light window so it can be used in our new #offgrid house #Monstera #Restoration
In May, Sable Shearwaters should look like the bird on the right (fully grown, ready to fledge 💙). Sadly, many look like the bird on the left: adorable fluffball, but very thin and full of plastic #SuperSeabirdSunday
Took the dogs on another wilderness adventure. 3” stumps for legs didn’t stop 12 year-old Vienna Sausage from making it to the top of Mt Arthur (1180 m) 🏔️ 💪 #Dachshund #Tasmania
One of the #FloweringGum we planted a few months ago is putting on a show for the first time (orange variety, our pink one flowered just before xmas) 🧡 #eucalypt #LandForWildlife
My husband’s phone sent me a series of text messages saying phones, power, internet have all gone down in #Karratha as a result of #CycloneNarelle (Category 4). No messages have gone through since 🌀
#CycloneNarelle has just passed #BedoutIsland. Some of the #frigatebirds have turned up in unexpected places (Rio Tinto mine site at Point Sampson) #seabirds
Car jammed full of plants. Someone feels yay 🤣🤣🤣 #revegetation #LandForWildlife
After months of watching and waiting, my flowering gum (orange variety) has finally burst its first-ever buds 🧡🎇 #LandForWildlife
This little nugget was snoring so loudly it caused an interruption to my online work meeting this afternoon 😴 🤣 #dachshund
Andrew had a hard day cutting wood and was looking forward to an evening relaxed in front of the TV. Farley had other ideas: hogging the couch and forcing Andrew into one corner 🤣 #dachshund
Farley & Vienna, inseparable (absolutely love a car ride!) #dachshunds
Today we planted a Red Lantern (Banksia caleyi) inside one of our big stumps. Looking forward to this one reaching 3m (hopefully it brings in the cockatoos!) #revegetation #LandForWildlife
Unsurprisingly, water restrictions are now being discussed 😮💨
We are in the north where the #drought is 10/10. It has barely rained in 2 months; no rain forecast for the next 30 days. Today is 32°C (extreme heat by #Tasmania standards) #ClimateEmergency
🎶🐦💙Please take a moment to enjoy the magic of these birds (sound on, munch munch) 🎶🐦💙 First night at the bush block; fortunate to be welcomed by a flock of endangered Loarra #BlackCockatoos who were pulling grubs (breakfast) from a tree we recently felled (for bushfire protection purposes)
Beach-washed #tropicbird north of Sydney. Likely died due to insufficient prey associated with the #MarineHeatwave #SuperSeabirdSunday 📸 credit: Robbi Newman, Light & Vision
Also hot down our way (by Tasmanian standards - equally worrying, it has barely rained in 2 months 😩)
Peace in our world (as the rest falls apart) #dachshund
PLEASE support a science-based future #Bushfire #ClimateEmergency #Heatwave While this image shows the situation in #Victoria today, it’s not much better in NSW
As an Editor-in-Chief trying to support inundated staff (many of whom are US based), this is NOT an acceptable email to send to authors requesting an update after 7 months of silence. Especially when the reason “that guy” didn’t turn his review in is bc the Editor forgot to email him 😮💨
