The Goose and the Common, mid-late 1700s as next week's class topic is art & activism, centuries-old songs and poems come to mind as an art of protest. the enclosure of the commons paved the way and method for colonization as we know it. these songs show us that people have always fought against it

The law demands that we,atone When we take things we do not own But leaves the lords and ladies fine Who take things that are yours and mine.
The poor and wretched don't escape If they conspire the law to break; This must be so but they endure Those who conspire to make the law.

every year around solsticetime, I share my favorite painting of a December sunset by Théodore Rousseau. over 22 years, he painted this scene but never completed it. I love its intimacy, its darkness; how the dense forest closes in around the low midwinter light piercing through. a perfect moment.
