Sometimes a kenku, sometimes a dragonborn, sometimes an elf. Always a tired bi with a bat'leth. Queer writer and freelancer in SLC. Get that AI slop off your timeline, kids. It's rotting your brain. she/they Support the PCRF
Earlier this year I made the terrifying decision to leave my day job for writing. Queers having Happily Ever Afters in places like Salt Lake doesn't make a lot of sense to a world that doesn't know...us. Wild Mormon Housewives are so much more interesting after all.
Help me build a platform to tell some good ol queer romance set in Salt Lake City. I can't promise reality show chaos, but I can give you people who absolutely shimmer and shine in the shadows of the Temple.
Sometimes Pride is attending your first parade at the age of 60. Sometimes it's finding love again when the world seemed to end. Sometimes it's giving out hugs to all of the folks who never had them when they needed them. In Salt Lake, Pride always shimmers in the shadow of the temple.
She sits always in judgement. Amd now .... she is right behind me.
Looking for happily-ever-after queer joy set in Salt Lake City? (Yes, it gets to happen for us here too!) Join me on Patreon for short stories, chapter excerpts, art, history, info, and more. Salt City Queers: Rainbows shimmer in the shadow of the Temple patreon.com/shaunakaylee...
Per the CBA, Siousxie would like to remind ownership that THEY buy the tuna.
Welp. All love to my beloved Galapa. But her blaze of glory saved the party tonight. #daggerheart
Happy Trans Day of Visibility from the best fandom hangout in SLC
Sometimes you get super lucky and have an artist at your #D&D and #Daggerheart tables. And they draw during games. And then you get to have moments and characters forever. All of these sketches are by @kitcactusart and I love them so much. Play games with your friends. Its life changing.
My life this morning as my coffee spilled right out of my Lilo and Stitch (old school only) and right onto my editing notes. This sad lil notebook has been through the ringer. But querying is about to begin!
Post a pic you took, no context, to bring some zen to the feed.
Happy birthday to my favorite nerd and chaos goblin. My life is infinitely better because of you.
I had SO much fun in today's workshop. I talked to participants about getting to know thier characters using TTRPG character creation techniques and then they all made character bible zines. It's definitely a workshop I would do again and expand. Thank you to everyone who showed up!
I have promised @rebelgrrrlsteph.bsky.social that if I get enough supporters on patreon to pay my half of the rent every month, we can talk about getting a dog It's been just over three years since our Starbuck chased her tennis balls over the rainbow bridge and we miss having slobber in our lives
Spending tonight working on fun things for my patreon supporters and hoping the Jazz can pull off a win tonight. Want in on the fun stuff? Check out my newsletter! shauna-kayleen-writes.kit.com
And the full time writer life begins! Spent the morning at Umbrella Cafe getting some edits in.
Book 2 of 2026: Tusk Love by Thea Guanzon. Look, as an avowed critter, I know i should have finished this sooner but look, 2025 was hard. ;) Seriously, a truly delightful romantic romp through the wilds. Even if you aren't a Critical Role fan, go ahead and pick it up.
This is feeling ever so real the closer I inch to focusing full time on writing ....
Now spinning: Miss Sharon Jones (the motion picture soundtrack)
In honor of JRR Tolkien Day, I am curling up with the letters of a man who wrote world changing fairy tales that are impossible to separate from his war trauma and the heartbreak he felt for those he lost. No idea why that feels relevant right now at all .....
You can find some of my older stuff along with the current goals over here: ko-fi.com/shaunakayleenwrites I am still building my platform and trying to figure out what the next steps look like. It's gonna be a journey, and I hope to make some new friends along the way. And now. As promised. Cats.
I'm also out here trying to build that freelance life. 2026 is the year I am quitting my day job (*quakes in terror*) so I can focus on writing queer romance, submitting those pesky short stories, lead workshops, and well, everything else that comes along with living this life.
Everyone should stop what they are doing and look at this picture of my mom's cat and her pile of toys.
Santa has come and gone, favorite movies are watched, the realization we could have made the cookies is sinking in, and we are chilling with The Nightmare Before Critmas (as is becoming another tradition). At some point sleep needs to come bit right now, life is good.
My very first deck building game. Definitely fun. 10/10 will play again.
