PNW artist and hiker and tired person I paint mountains and mushrooms and cats and things. I also paint things if you ask me to.
I finally got up to Oyster Dome for the very first time yesterday and got to do a little sketching! It was my first "real" hike since destroying my foot (spraining a bunch of toes) a month and a half ago, and woof. I gotta get out on the trails more. #hiking #pnw #sketchbook #watercolor
I like to add these neurographic sketches to my sketchbooks sometimes. It's a quick and easy way to get a pebble effect with a few wavy lines and some layers of paint. #watercolor #sketchbook #art
I don't think I'm done with this sketch yet, but I like where it is right now. It's so loose, and the color palette feels different from what I normally use. I'll probably come back to it later to add more layers and detail but for now, I like this. #sketchbook #pnw #watercolor #northcascades
This evening's sketchbook pages. #watercolor #sketchbook #journaling
Sketching Liberty Bell Mountain from the Washington Pass overlook in the North Cascades a few weeks ago. (I'm not going to let my feed devolve into only daily @skyrdle.com results) #pnw #pleinair #sketchbook
Sitting at the pub this afternoon, drinking lemon lavender shrubs, and practicing my set up for Edmonds Sketcher Fest this weekend. I'm gonna stick with the split primary palette, my favorite travel brushes, and this newish sketchbook. #sketchbook #watercolor #uskseattle
Ok so in my realization that I need to share more than just @skyrdle.com results, here's a loose sketch from a photo of Mount Rainier in the fall. I've been focusing on practicing with the split primary color palette, and also having fun with these fluorescent crayons. #watercolor #pnw #sketchbook
A midnight self portrait. Can you believe I did this without looking at any reference at all? This is exactly what I look like.
It's so amazing that the portrait artist that was hired for Founding Fathers' Picture Day was able to get all of the most famous people in American history to dress the same and also paint everyone in front of the same backdrop. History is so cool! 🙄
Today’s office at Diablo Lake in the North Cascades National Park Complex, doing a #pleinair paintout with a lovely group of #PAWA artists! #pleinairwashingtonartists #pnw #watercolor #art
I found these Caran d'Ache Neocolor Fluos in a pencil pouch in my studio and thought I'd try them out with this amanita sketch. I think I got them in a subscription box a few years ago? Either way, fun experiment. I want to incorporate them into larger paintings sometime. #FungiFriends #Sketchbook
One final night before I take my artwork down from Ridgecrest Pub! It's been wonderful having my art up there for the last two months! 🥰 #seattleart #watercolor #pnwonderland
Today's #repostyourart theme is "garden"! I pulled up these rockroses last year because they got way too massive for the space they were in, but I'm happy they can live on in my sketchbook. #gardening #sketchbook #flowers
Yesterday's #repostyourart theme was "soft" #sketchbook #cats #petportrait
Today's theme for #repostyourart is "yummy" I don't often paint with acrylic, but I love these little sushi paintings I did a few years ago #sushi #painting #art
And here's an action shot from the second auction. I don't want to say my art career peaked here, but... I've kind of been chasing the dragon of these moments ever since. It's a hard feeling to beat.
Today's theme of #repostyourart is PENCIL so here is my villain origin story... rodeo art in colored pencil. I auctioned both of these pieces at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo back in high school (9th and 11th grade) and the #prismacolor pencils I used (and still have) are now considered vintage
Another quick backyard tree study for #pleinairpril tonight. I did this without any pencil sketch and just a single water brush. #watercolor #sketchbook #art
Day 8's theme of #repostyourart is Autumn. Autumn is probably the season I have the MOST artwork from, but I've always loved this little painting of larches in Headlight Basin with Mount Stuart in the background. This is another one from a 100 Day Project a few years ago.
Day 7 of #repostyourart is "silly" I present a silly pizza cat. This one is from my most successful 100 Day Project. #petportrait #pizzacat #watercolor #sketchbook
A little backyard sketch for today's #pleinairpril study while I talked to my mom on the phone. I want to do more to this, but I was losing the light and it was getting pretty chilly. #watercolor #sketchbook
This finally arrived in the mail and I am so excited to start reading through it! #art #artinspiration
It's time for Day 6 of #repostyourart and today's theme is BIRD. I painted these two bad boys for Crow Fest in Bothell a couple of years ago. #birdart #watercolor #pnw
Today's #pleinairpril piece was part of a paint-out with the Shoreline Watercolor & Sketching group at Ballinger Park!
Day 5 of #repostyourart is "mountain" so here is the beautiful lady herself. This is an alpine meadow area called Summerland at Mount Rainier National Park, and the original photo was taken during my 2024 Wonderland Trail hike. #pnwonderland
Took a little ferry adventure today and sketched some different views from the boat for #pleinairpril. Mount Baker up top, Olympics down below.
Day 4 of #repostyourart is Cat/Dog, and I owe so much of my recent artistic development to my sweet angels. I would not be where I am without them inspiring me. Thank you Daphne, Marley, and Duffy for being so beautiful.
I spent all day doing yard work and working out and then sort of collapsed onto the couch, so now I am sketching this tree at sunset for today’s #pleinairpril before I go see Project Hail Mary! I promise it won’t be all trees all month.
Another tree for day 3 of #PleinAirpril. I forgot my hat and it was crazy sunny so I didn’t spend too much time on this. This park was really nice though, so I’ll probably spend more time here this month.
