Seven states require a candidate to win a primary with a majority of the votes. To make that happen, primary runoff elections are used. These states are primarily, but not exclusively, in the South: Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota and Texas.

In addition, two more states—North Carolina and South Dakota—require runoffs in special circumstances:

In North Carolina, a primary runoff is not automatically triggered; it must be requested by a second-place candidate, and the first-place candidate must have received less than 30% of the votes cast.
In South Dakota, a primary runoff is required if no candidate wins more than 35% of the vote in a race with three or more candidates.
Outside of primaries, three states—Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi—require runoff elections in general elections:

In Georgia, a runoff election must be held if no candidate receives more than 50% of the vote. (Ga. Code § 21-2-501).
In Louisiana, the November general election is technically a primary election. If a candidate receives 50% of the vote, they win outright. If no candidate receives more than 50% of the vote, a general (runoff) election is then held between the top two vote getters on the fifth Saturday after the third-to-last Saturday in October. (La. Rev. Stat. Ann. §§ 18:402, 18:511).
In Mississippi, if no candidate for a statewide office receives more than 50% of the vote, a runoff election is held. (Miss. Const. Art. 5, § 140).

I. Y. Yunioshi is a fictional character conceived by Truman Capote for his 1958 novella Breakfast at Tiffany's, which George Axelrod adapted for the 1961 movie of the same name. The character in the film is significantly different from the character as presented in Capote's original novella,[1][2] and the film version of Mr. Yunioshi, as portrayed by Mickey Rooney, has been the subject of extensive critical commentary and review since its theatrical release due to its use of ethnic stereotypes.

One of my personal favorites is Swedish heart-throb Nils Asther playing Chinese warlord General Yen opposite Barbara Stanwyck. Directed by Frank Capra. It was the first film shown on the movie screen at Radio City Music Hall in 1933.

The wise Carl Sagan called it. This is the situation MAGAs find themselves in. They have allowed themselves to be bamboozled by a charlatan and the majority of them will not have the brainpower or ability to extricate themselves. Too bad for the entire world MAGA never learned critical thinking.

I am an attorney and my husband is a veteran and was an officer in the Army, in combat. The below is a pretty good summary of individual and institutional responsibility regarding illegal orders. Electoral-vote.com

When a soldier is taught not to follow illegal orders, that pertains to acts that they themselves might commit that would be clearly illegal. For example, shooting someone who is trying to surrender, or killing civilians indiscriminately. They are not in a position to make judgments about whether the larger action they are involved in is legal or not, nor are they expected to do so. That is a question for Congress, the White House, the courts, and maybe the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Put another way, the fact that a soldier does not lay down arms when ordered to attack Tehran does not mean that soldier can be expected to open fire on, say, a U.S. polling place if ordered to do so. The latter act would be a clear violation of the UCMJ, the former is not.

My husband went to West Point & served as an officer in combat. He is a disabled veteran. We know not everyone who serves is in combat -- thank goodness. We have had many conversations about this "illegal order" stuff, he as an officer & me as a lawyer. I think the below represents our thinking.

This is lovely news! A new Barbie doll honoring Dr. Opal Lee has been released. Dr. Lee is a 99-year-old activist best known as “Grandmother of Juneteenth" for leading the charge to make Juneteenth a national holiday. 💙 Congratulations Dr. Lee!

When I traveled historic Route 66 in 2022, I encountered many distortions of history. Particularly in Missouri, Oklahoma, & TX. A favorite example of whitewashing: Black heroine Mary Meachum (Underground Railroad) helped enslaved people cross into free Illinois. Depicted now as white woman!
