Which is why this moment made my entire world! 💙 Last month, I got to show my art to Steve Blum. I was able to give him a few prints, and he signed one for me to keep forever. I even got a video of him saying "that belongs in a museum" and near fainted lol.
Ten years later, it's still woefully unfinished. Over the years, I've tinkered with it from time to time, but knowing myself, I doubt I'll ever be happy enough to consider it truly finished. Even so, I'm still hella proud to have created something like this without today's artificial bullshit.
Ten years ago, I was missing my art supplies at the time, and I had this crazy idea to try painting digitally. Cowboy Bebop is my favorite series of all time, and I wanted to see what Spike Spiegel would look like in my own style. So I took a screenshot and started painting over it...
Ended Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month on a high note with a wonderful webinar by George Takei, who shared his experiences growing up in an internment camp and how he and his family faced injustice with resilience and dignity.
I spent last night at a special screening of Third Act and was lucky enough to meet director Tadashi Nakamura afterward. Was in tears. As an Asian American, it uncovered and begun to heal deep festering wounds I've carried with me my whole life. I highly recommend watching this very special film...
But my absolute highlight of #NWAC2026 was getting invited to crash the Alaskans' Belzoni on the last night. No better way to end this joint conference than to meet such amazing, wonderful folks from Alaska and listen to so many cool and interesting stories about how archaeology is done up north!
Saw Project Hail Mary at the historic McMenamins Olympic Club in Centralia before heading up north to Bellingham for #NWAC2026. An incredible experience.
