Will Nolan’s film harm Homer? Do films owe fidelity to the epics? I was asked.
By far the weirdest baby Jesus I saw today in Venice (there were many). This was at the Correr.
My father, Jarvis Rockwell, passed away last month at the age of 94. I wrote an obituary about his life well lived (link below). Below, a photo of him with his toys, his artistic medium of choice in his latter years. www.legacy.com/us/obituarie...
Omg please read this Wikipedia article. He has a trans male partner, or?
He was also a hunter and on some occasions he even killed birds and then posed them on wildlife tableaux to paint! Of course this does not apply to his cat paintings, of which, here is another.
I keep returning to this one mostly for the finger painting but also for the vibes
My novel, Alice Sees Ghosts, will be published in the US by Galiot Press in October 2026! 🎄🎄🎄
My memoir-essay on growing up with Norman Rockwell Thanksgivings is up in Vogue this morning. Here’s a small extract: www.vogue.com/article/norm...
Norman Rockwell was an anti-racist, as you can see from this 1962 celebrity questionnaire in Esquire.
They did get a response from DHS though, which is entirely predictable.
Norman Rockwell started creating his most exciting political work at the age of seventy! It’s not too late for any of us to get inspired and get involved. (6)
He went on to paint more works in the sixties that addressed racism (and also expanded his horizons, traveling around the world, and painting Nehru, Nasser, and Tito)…(5)
Think of his famous desegregation painting, “The Problem We All Live With”…(4)
But his work changed dramatically during the civil rights movement…(3)
Probably because they mistakenly believe that Rockwell was in favor of a white America (2)
DHS is using the paintings as part of their ICE recruitment push (1)
