Back to boring city life after being surrounded by nature for a week but then a seal pops up a few metres away from you in the river today to cheer you up. Totally unexpected and pleasantly gobsmacked at the same time. Glad I had my camera… #seal #nature #photography #mademyfriday #canonr100

A photo I took with my canon R100 with a 100-300mm lens of a grey-brown coloured seal that appeared very close to me in a murky city river! It popped its head up several times. I’ve never seen a seal swimming in this river ever.

Canada geese and Curlews on an estuary in North Wales late evening. Curlews are on the red list in the UK due to loss of habitat and crows preying on their young unfortunately. Haven’t seen them since I was a kid so lovely surprise. #Scape #birds #photography #estuary #curlew #conservation

Dark Green fritillary - not the rare High Brown fritillary as I originally thought but still beautiful 🤩 #butterflies #photography #macro #insects #wales #ukinsects

A dark green fritillary on a violet buddleja flower that was covered in butterflies that day that looks very similar to the rare high brown fritillary but lacks brown spots on its lower side wings. It has white pearl marks on a greenish brown wing while the upper is an orange brown colour.

The Dark Green fritillary with wings open, slightly out of focus unfortunately as it only opened its wings briefly. It is on the violet buddleja flower. It is large with orange- brown wings and typical fritillary black markings. Background is green

Delighted to see a Little Egret yesterday evening for the first time after recently painting one. Unfortunately it was quite shy and kept flying off as I tried to get closer. I think 🤔 the one I saw in Majorca was a Great Egret as this one was tiny.

A photo I took yesterday of a shy Little Egret that was hunting fish in the shallow parts of the shoreline. The bird is small and white with a long neck, a dark beak and long thin feathers on the back of its crown. Legs are long and yellow.

Digital drawing that I started tonight of two crows on a branch. The crow on the right is a partly drawn sketch and the left is an finished sketch but I’ve started tonight colour in the head part. I find feathers hard to draw and there are lots from the reference photo I took.

A photo I took yesterday from a boat of a breeding pair of gannets. The gannet on the left is leaning back with wings outstretched. The partner gannet’s head is touching the back of the outstretched gannet. There are four gannets looking towards the breeding pair and one in front of them. The background is a cliff face of Bass Rock streaked with white bird poo.

Large grey heron spotted yesterday. Beautiful specimen. It was asleep 😴 when we passed it later it had its head tucked into its feathers. I am happy as my photo came out sharp for a future painting. #birds #birdsofuk #photography #nature #waterbirds #heron #greyheron

Swallows and what I think is a Sand Martin (?) were flying low over freshly mown grass in the park. Light was awful but did manage to catch a couple of shots of them - more luck than skill 😜 Very rarely see pied wagtails here. #birds #photography #beginnerphotographer #sandmartin #swallow #birdID

Its legs are black with a hint of blue. There is a larger dark blue-black stone to the right of the bird and behind the bird and green/brown stones to the left of it. The sea is a mixture of blues with hint of greens and pinks.

The fox is a mixture of orange to reddish browns with a black nose, dark brown legs/paws and chest. Ears are long with wispy light brown fur around the inner ear which is a dark brown.

A fledgling blue tit fluttering its wings perched on a sycamore branch. Underbelly is a pale yellow. Photo is taken from below looking up so only the dark stripe on one eye is visible.

Same blue tit fledgling facing the camera. The crown is a desaturated blue while belly is a pale yellow. It is sitting on a hawthorn branch with patches of blue-grey lichen.

Took my daughter to a bird nature reserve and saw a lot of lapwings which are sadly on the red list in the UK. They are on the right of the photo which is better seen in landscape view. I hadn’t actually noticed them when I took this 🙃 #birds #lapwing #beginnerbirdphotographer
