The source of the #Perseids meteor shower is comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle and the shower has been observed for nearly 2,000 years. Meteors from this stream hit our atmosphere at 59km/s, which is quite swift compared to other showers. #Astronomy #PerseidsMeteorShower

24th July: The 81% lit #Moon is close to the bright star Antares in Scorpius this evening. Look low to the south-southwest around 23:00 BST (22:00 UT). #Astronomy
The current radiant of the #PerseidsMeteorShower lies between the 'W' of Cassiopeia and M31 - the Andromeda Galaxy. It moves towards Perseus into August. The peak is on the night of 12-13 August. Rates of #Perseids will also be high on 11-12 and 13-14 August. #Astronomy
22nd July: Comet 10P/Tempel is close to the magnitude 4.3 star Epsilon Capricorni this evening. Best viewed to the south after midnight. A telescope needed for this one. #Astronomy

The 16% lit crescent #Moon is near #Venus this evening, 17th July. Look very low to the west at 22:30 BST (21:30 UT). The pair will be tricky to spot unless you have a good, clear view in that direction. #Astronomy

Nice one. I remember star trails being one of the first things I wanted to learn when I got my DSLR (a Canon 600D). Here's an early effort from Kielder Observatory on 12 August 2013. Amazingly I'm still using that camera today!

3rd July: Activity for the minor Alpha Capricornids meteor shower begins today. Not many will be visible until the peak around 31st July. #Astronomy
29th to 31st: The peak of the minor Alpha Capricornids meteor shower occurs over these dates. Although even during times of peak activity you'll only see less than 5 per hour, the Alpha Capricornids shower often features bright meteors. The Moon interferes this year. #Astronomy
