I just had to wait until I moved to the island of big spiders to crack this open. Now I want to name them all.
Sad I couldn’t be at the Lloyd Center closing this week. Have so many memories, especially of the old rink where my Dad used to take me on weekends. This photo is older, but it had already taken on the brown and orange Rollerball color scheme of the ‘70s.
This tie-in snack for the VIVANT series is taking the naptha shortage to brilliant levels.
Don’t know why I waited so long to crack open that Alexander Chee book that’s been staring from the shelf, but I’m so glad I did it now.
Takaichi admin is planning to use retired SDF officers as immigration enforcement. Demonstration in Tokyo on Monday.
Either I woke up on Caprica or a comet has just passed. #5amwritersclub #okinawa
About a third of the way in, and I’m loving how the language pulls that MR James trick of slipping the horror in through oblique angles and insinuation while also staying ferociously graphic. Masterful.
Just finished this one and I could go on about how much I loved it, but that would spoil it for the rest of you. Proper words coming on another platform, but for now a Dad joke. Do not crash on the rocks by missing out. Thank you for not urbying hte ygas @philipasuggars.bsky.social !
Was telling a friend last night how the beach here reminds me a little of Amity. Today.
Partner sent this 1967 photo from today’s paper. Kids commuting to school in Kunijima on bamboo stilts until a bridge was built in the 1987.
Saw it & delighted in and loved much of it (other than a few strong misgivings toward the end). The parts I did not like were clear attempts to appease the Snyderbabies with dim lighting and guitar riffs. We also complementary WoT comics, finally translated into Japanese.
Trying some Okinawan Karaki tea, a very pungent cinnamon made from bark in the Yanbaru region. Minus the jasmine in this mix, it’s close to how I imagined klah.
Morning, Bluesky. Today is 慰霊の日/Okinawa Memorial Day, a prefectural holiday commemorating those lost in the Battle of Okinawa.
Kara and Krypto’s upcoming movie antics look fun and all, but you haven’t seen Krypto and Streaky battle for bestest super pet on a practical-joke-planetoid created by Mr. Mxzyptlk.
The second bookshelf arrived. More freed from boxes. Walk-in closet now walkable. Home theater and projector arranged.
Millie in the French Supergirl poster is doubling for Adele Exarchopoulos in “Zero F***s Given.”
Thankfully it was small. 😅 Enough sirens and alerts on the phone to think otherwise.
Still relatively calm and headed into work, but glad the cats are safe on the 8th floor.
Managed to get back to reading in May, five new books and one compulsive reread for May. Lucked out this month. Calypso is phenomenal, and Clem Burke’s fantastic memoir arrived with the rest of Blondie just in time for Supergirl Summer.
I’m very grateful for these porthole-sized windows in the bedroom. The typhoon has closed the airport and shut down all public transportation— and we’re only at the start. Hunkering in with the cats and some Widow’s Bay in authentic surround sound.
From the building management. It won’t be rolling in until tomorrow night, but things are getting real.
Finally started this fabulous book, and it feels like reading The Secret History for the first time, but written by Julian Morrow, or better, his nemesis.
I go past this every day and finally got a picture. Possibly the greatest Kanji/ English signage combination I’ve ever seen.
Apparently the book cover for Robert Calasso’s The Marriage of Cadmus and Harmony is a mite too saucy for bluesky. I got a check for posting suggestive imagery. First time that’s happened.
