This winter, the city snowplow driver for our street has consistently dug up 8-9 feet of our next-door neighbour's front lawn. Yesterday, despite no snow on the road they then proceeded to plough the frozen remnants of their lawn onto our driveway. Thanks, City of Kingston.

No question that the northern hemisphere is having an early and intense influenza season. However, it ain't "super flu" folks. Seasonal influenza, particularly in unvaccinated persons, has always been a much more severe illness than most people realize. A quote from an influenza expert, not me.

UK now reporting that this year's seasonal influenza, which is predominantly due to A(H3N2), is hitting those aged 5 to 14 years the hardest. Not surprising as that age group is mainly A(H1N1) imprinted having been born after the 2009 Influenza pandemic that was driven by the H1N1pdm09 virus.

This cartoon reminds me of going to see my family physician a few years back and being asked personal questions by the front staff in earshot of the waiting room.

Lastly, let's look at test positivity trending for the big 3 respiratory viruses; blue is influenza, green is RSV and red is SARS-CoV-2. One can see the upswing in #COVID19 since mid-June. These twice per year rises in COVID activity have been seen since 2021. All to say "Let's be careful out there"
