Simultaneous sibling slobber scouring for this week’s #caturday cleanup
My whole company was offsite last week so there was nobody to water, but timelines *really* needed live plants this week. I’m quite pleased with my very janky self-watering semihydroponic system! The soy boys germinated (ok, 75% is not great but better than 0) and are growing! Hope they nodulate🤞🌿
While the heat and smoke might try to off me, Montana’s weather today has been welcoming in other ways.
I still work with metals sometimes, I swear! Just… usually as soil minerals or plant nutrients or formulation components. Check out this intense MLCT from an antioxidant overreducing another transition metal ingredient!
No matter what errand you’re running in town, chances are you could do it by bike with the right kit! #bikesky #CarFree #CarryShitOlympics
One of the worst parts of summer for me is that it’s too warm for lapcats. Morgana finds the extended days with longer sunbeams an acceptable substitute, though.
This weekend, I’m reading “The Door into Sunset” by Diane Duane, an absolutely papercut-inducing, pageturner of a fantasy adventure novel. The third book of “The Tale of the Five,” I was surprised & delighted by how queer-forward its in-universe romance is for a series that hit the shelves in 1979.
Happy “recovering from big boomnight” day to all those who celebrate. Fireworks started so early they interrupted *dinner*. Merlin hunkered under the bed, with Morgana using me as a human shield. The kitchen would have been quieter but it lacks the psychological safety of the bedroom.
I got home late last night from a week in the mountains, so apologies for this late #caturday report: I think they missed me ❤️
Had to share the coolest/weirdest sighting of my week in the CA High Country: in a shallow granite pool in northern Yosemite NP, a huuuge nymph (tiger beetle, Cicindela oregona?) snagged a tadpole (western tree frog, Pseudacris rigilla?) but struggles to dive against its air-filled prey’s buoyancy!🧪
A cultural fusion (& innovation?) by my friend @lydiachen.bsky.social : the “Kombu & Entering” Kombu strip in St. George B&E American whiskey. Served (of course) in handmade ochoko. The seaweed brings out the warm spice notes from the bourbon/rye parts of the blend in a BIG way!
Just unpacking my a bike tire and the crinkly packing paper attracted curious #caturday feline attention. One text message answering moment of rest later and I guess we’re doing this now instead of putting it on the bike.
The new (to me) Tilikum Crossing in Portland is so awesome! Transit/Bike/Pedestrian-only infrastructure that lands on the eastern shore at the Oregon Rail Heritgage Center. Really wish we could get something like it in Oakland, either to SF or Alameda.
Is there even a bike lane here? I sure do wish that parking enforcement would swing by Piedmont Ave literally any day of the week around 6pm. They could come every 15 minutes and write 5 more tickets at this ONE restaurant!
It’s tough to play second fiddle sometimes, but I hope you all have someone who adores you as much as Merlin loves my brother and my brother’s pokémon backpack. (He’s gazing at his uncle just out of frame) #CatSky #CatsOfBluesky
Guys, I think e-bikes might be winning. My retired folks got e-bikes last week and they’re already posting about mundane daily trips they’d otherwise do by car! #BikeSky
The word of the week is PIZZA. Chicago style, of course! Though I hope the good folk of IL forgive me for using a cast iron rather than a true deep dish #ChemistsWhoCook
Sharing a sunny window, watching the birds in my neighbors’ roses, hanging out with catdad at his desk. What a fine #caturday for Merlin & Morgana & Me.
I said I was logging off, but after dinner I couldn’t find Merlin anywhere. I called and searched, and where found him was too good not to share: He had burrowed himself completely into my dirty laundry pile. This is exactly as I discovered him. Who am I to critique his #caturday coziness?
This is a cat checkpoint, relinquish your most recent cat picture. #catsky #CatsOfBluesky
My biology colleagues were initially shocked when I demonstrated, but I still believe this is the optimal parafilmase:
