I mostly ramble about trivial nerd stuff, but I'm also on a Bluesky list for "angry politics." My politics are that bigots should fall into a deep, empty well. He/Him. Pfp: Guybrush Threepwood falling down against a blue sky. Banner: Guybrush flying.
Reposted with alt text. I just love the argument that "I made AI draw characters you might like saying that AI art is cool, checkmate "antis!" Also, stop trying to make "antis" happen, it's not gonna happen.
Just learned that there's an upcoming Steven Moffat show set in Downing Street. And, leaving aside how you might feel about that overall, what caught my attention was that last sentence, because I just thought "Well that shouldn't be very hard; just avoid using party names and no one can tell!"
Other than that, the game definitely has some puzzle solutions that wouldn't be obvious if you haven't played it before, but perhaps the hardest one - also a navigational one - is making it up the stairs on the right if you don't know that 1-3-7-9 on the number pad will let you walk diagonally.
The only truly aggravating "puzzle" is navigating around this fucker
Alongside my Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 replay, I suddenly decided I felt like replaying the Space Quest series, and started with the 1986 original, which I don't return to that often, preferring the 1991 VGA remake. And you know what, it's 80 % to avoid this fucking save-scumming exercise.
From time to time, I play around with recreating old adventure game sprites, even entire screens, in paint software. But I was always a bit frustrated that I couldn't nail the exact color palette. So what do you do? Obviously, you dust up a copy of Deluxe Paint, premiere drawing software of 1988!
When I say I have trouble imagining Castlevania: Lords of Shadow without a fixed camera, this is what I mean. Showing this view off with a brief cutscene before returning to modern 3rd person camera just wouldn't be the same as running through this landscape with this view.
You know what needs a remaster, for compatibility if nothing else? This guy.
And, per the artist himself, the VGA portraits aren't based on any direct photo reference, either. mixnmojo.com/features/sit...
Full-3D, VR compatible remakes of the Journeyman Project trilogy. Myst and Riven got them, I want them for my babies, too. And then there's Under a Killing Moon, where I did, in fact, instantly go in on the Kickstarter! www.kickstarter.com/projects/tex...
I love the Like a Dragon series. I haven't played Kiwami 3, and won't as long as they insist on keeping a sexual assaulter in the cast - even more galling given how quick they were to replace people with drug scandals. I was still excited about Stranger Than Heaven, tho, but this is just fucking ick
So, this if from the FAQ re: AI usage. One unfortunate consequence of the plagiarism machines being forced into every aspect of our lives is that the term "AI" has been flattened into mostly meaning LLMs and genAI like Sora. But using machine learning for upscaling has been around for a LONG time.
Also, while I wish we were in a world where the base assumption to this question was no, it's so nice to see it explicitly stated:
I know there are franchise nerds who get weirdly defensive of the MCU or whatever, but I've never seen anything that compares to the frothing and/or whiny outrage of Gamers(TM) when a publication gives a bad or even middling review of a mostly well-received game.
Sooooo... Shapez 2 has kind of taken over my life. There's a certain purity to it compared to Satisfactory (or Factorio, I guess, maybe, I haven't played).
And hell, that Alien drawing is comparatively high-effort - look at that neat bit of hatching on the egg, and the very pleasing dashed line! You can go WAY more basic
