Just had a short but eventful walk. Hoped to see some Ringlet butterflies, but no luck. Plenty of others, though, including the most Red Admirals I've seen in ages, & a couple of Painted Ladies. 3 large dragonflies seen, but either too distant or too fast-moving to be sure of species.

My current #Minecraft project. The river's been completely reshaped & retextured, with full conduit cover, & I'm in the middle of the huge grind to coat it with greenery & coral. You don't want to know how much bonemeal this is taking. Sea pickle lighting will be the last layer.

Took my 1st walk across the fields in a long, long time. Still felt weird without Tigger, but paid off in wildlife terms. Buzzards, Hummingbird Hawkmoth, Beautiful Demoiselles, & butterflies galore. 3 new species ticked: Large Skipper, Small Copper, Marbled White. 15 total, now. Also pig family.

1 positive about the heat: butterflies are now out in force. 4 new species ticked off, 3 today: Comma, Small Skipper, Green-Veined White, Small Tortoiseshell. 12 total, now. Also encountered this dopey juvenile starling on our feeding table. Clearly still learning that humans are to be avoided.

I've written to my MP, @claireyoungmp.bsky.social, again, with focus on Starmer's social media ban, & how it will hurt trans+ folk. As always, feel free to use it as a template or inspiration, & I'll report on any reply I get. Not convinced I will get 1, but hey, every bit of pressure could help.

First half of a letter I wrote to my MP. It reads:-

I wasn't intending to write to you again until I'd had a response to my prior message, but recent developments, one in particular, have changed my mind.

First off, I need to thank you for signing EDM 240. That means a lot. That it's currently at 146 signatures, to my understanding a large number for an EDM, means even more. In that regard, you and your party are really coming through. In another, however, you're giving me and many others serious concerns, questions and doubts.

I refer to Keir Starmer's announcement of a social media ban for those under sixteen. He frames it as safeguarding children, but in that regard, as many organisations, Save The Children among them, are pointing out, it won't work. The failure of the Australian ban, and the UK's own Online Safety Act, show that, as it's all too easy to find workarounds, ones that aren't easy to get rid of.

Moreover, again as multiple groups have pointed out, it will actually, actively harm children, especially vulnerable ones, such as the disabled, the neurodiverse, and those under the queer umbrella. This is partly because being barred from more known, observed spaces could well drive them to less known, more dangerous ones, and partly because it risks cutting them off from support groups, of peers, of friends, and more. To be blunt, vulnerable kids are already committing suicide because of how bad things are in the country, and this ban would make things even worse.

The 2nd half of a letter I wrote to my MP. It reads:-

To my mind, and that of many others, this is Starmer trying to force Digital ID in through the back door, Starmer pursuing his authoritarian, autocratic, dissent-suppressing goals with no regard for the harm done, Starmer leaning ever closer to outright fascism, and Starmer the coward ducking out of actually holding the social media companies to account. In fact, as many things have proven, the EHRC guidelines prominent among them, to Starmer, harming the vulnerable clearly isn't a bug, it's a feature.

In light of all that, it was genuinely shocking to see your party posting a video not only supporting the ban, but pushing for it to go even further. It jars so strongly against your support for trans+ people it makes me wonder, is the latter purely performative and opportunistic? Does it actually have no real substance? I reiterate, the social media ban will harm trans+ kids, greatly, so how can you possibly square support for it with support for trans+ people?

The LibDems are starting to regain a little belief from the queer community, a little support, but this could easily ruin all that. You have a chance, here. Please don't mess it up. We'll all likely suffer for it.

I've now sent an email to Claire Young about the guidelines, reproduced below. If you want to use it as a template or inspiration for 1 of your own, go right ahead. Our MPs need to feel the pressure, I believe. They can't just handwave this away. I'll report on her response.

The "new" guidance was released today, and I use inverted commas as from all the evaluations I've seen of it so far - including this one by The Good Law Project - it's not changed much, only softened a little in some aspects.

It's still discriminatory, unworkable, a form of segregation, and seriously damaging to the lives and livelihoods of trans+ people. It's still far more a work of blinkered ideology, in regards to trans+ people, than anything else, and certainly not something an equalities body should be submitting.

The EHRC is an equalities body that at best appears to not understand its own remit, or worse, is purposely subverting it with the explicit intent of harming trans+ people. Considering how many trans+ groups and charities now consider the EHRC actively hostile, I fear the latter.

So please, if you truly are the ally you state yourself to be, reject the guidelines, and insist the EHRC do better.

Deciding a complete change of creative pace would be a good idea, I've started a new #PlanetCoaster project. The 1st stage is a heccin' big building. Got the walls done, now gotta figure out the giant domey-thingy in the very centre, then the rest of the roof.

Blatantly AI generated - vague, awkward, asking "what's gonna happen" on the last chapter of the story when you really ought to freaking know if you actually read more than the blurb - & I find myself, yet again, wondering what the point is. Really cack-handed attempts at training the client?

Decided to use the *gorgeous* weather to clear back the wild scrub in the spud bed to see how many had returned, & was shocked to find *20*, way more than I'd anticipated. Also happy to see the much more resilient than I'd expected raspberry returning for another year. Happy gardener fox-thing. 😀

After a welcome break from the AI spam comments on Hero, we have a twofer. All the tells. Posted on C1. Vague, empty, with awkward phrasing. Generic handle. And prompting me to go to another site for their full thoughts is 1 of the biggest red flags, especially when 1 of those sites is Discord.
