I mostly share updates about STL development & historic preservation
2125-51 Locust ("Rollick") by AHM closed on financing in the last few weeks and should break ground soon - $24 million, 74-units w/ ground retail space. Shortsighted data center was allowed 1-block away for no good reason. buildwealth.investnext.com/portal/offer... www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pb18...
Board of Adjustment approved the rotating A & Eagle neon sign for the STL brewery, contingent on Preservation Board approval. Will be located on 900 Pestalozzi bldg that spans the street. Pirros Signs has been restoring the Newark sign for over 6 months.
Embassy Suites in Kansas City was imploded yesterday. Kind of surprising we still allow massive debris clouds like this for expediency - and right next door to KC’s foremost medical center. It will become a hospital parking lot. fox4kc.com/news/watch-e...

60 affordable LIHTC units in 21 scattered buildings planned for Tiffany neighborhood. 1 to 3 bedrooms, $15M total development cost www.bizjournals.com/stlouis/news...
Workers from Spirtas Worldwide have been actively securing the Chemical Building all week. Boarding up openings that have been open for years.
Nice new blade sign at Aubergine Thai should greatly increase its visibility on 7th Street
Every July 4th the Dobbs tire family does a huge private firework show at their Fenton compound. Customers’ money going up in smoke! 😅
New Waymo Ojai models are out & about testing in STL. Based on a Chinese Zeekr platform. Since Waymo strips certain hardware out and never sells the vehicles to retail customers, they aren’t affected by the U.S. ban on Chinese EVs
4420 Manchester in the Grove looks like it will house a new restaurant soon (Not sure of the concept since the old signage is still up). New occupancy permit application & storefront was recently repainted. Vails Bros relocated to 6655 Manchester in Franz Park
La Crazy Margarita opening a 2nd location in the Grove at Newstead and Manchester. The original is at 3131 S. Grand lacrazymargaritas.com
Paul Brown bldg making a comeback under new ownership: Maya Indian fusion restaurant, SNOO snow cone restaurant, water-damaged apartments restored www.bizjournals.com/stlouis/news...
Saw what looks like a shiny new model of city trash truck in the alley today 😯
The new Hyatt Centric (The Last Hotel) on Wash Ave is accepting bookings starting Nov 19. Will have a restaurant/bar called “The Link” and a revised blade sign likely due to rebranding www.hyatt.com/hyatt-centri...
“Hawkeye in 2019 proposed building a 152-room Moxy Hotel at 1014 Olive St. The firm still owns the property, currently a surface parking lot, but it is unclear if it still intends to develop it.” www.cityscene-stl.com/post/moxy-ho...
On a related note, AC Hotel at Jefferson Arms is also listed as finally opening in August on Marriott’s site (cc @gconnolly314.bsky.social)
Le Méridien hotel downtown is finally accepting reservations starting Aug 1. Signage was added for new restaurant “Pine Street Social” www.bizjournals.com/stlouis/news...
New restaurant w/ sidewalk seating coming to the formerJuniper space at 4101 Laclede. Not sure of the concept or who’s behind it.
Tacos 4 Life across from City Foundry permanently closed at some point - never went but heard it was good
In other positive news downtown, it looks like the America’s Center Washington Ave facade improvements might finally be getting underway with glass canopies being removed
Sure looks like Metropolitan Build is moving forward w/ Chemical Building renovation. No permit records yet but their banners are up and section of 8th Street is closed from today till July 31 www.bizjournals.com/stlouis/news...
Heavily revised "Flats at Forest Park" by PPG out for bids. 50 units (down from 144) including 14 in a 1 level roof addition on the existing building. Higher interest rates & higher costs reportedly killed the previous grand redevelopment vision. www.sldcplanroom.com/projects/718...
Webster, Kirkwood, now Ferguson. Perhaps having 88 municipalities in STL County isn’t sustainable www.stltoday.com/news/local/g...
Union Loafers is opening a new bakery at 1858 Russell in McKinley Heights
