Posting our lab life studying the neuronal cytoskeleton and chromatin with cool microscopes🔬Proud #GenX, #firstgen college, #intj @RITscience @stonybrooku Alum Verified:
My annual culinary tradition: once a year, in an airport somewhere around the globe, I have a surreptitious Big Mac. London. Lisboa. Sydney. Frankfurt. And now, Chicago. The Big Mac world tour continues. 🍔🌎
How do we watch chromatin make developmental decisions as neurons are still alive? Tomorrow I have a poster at the Neural Dev GRC. We engineered biosensors that visualize chromatin states inside live neurons. The next frontier isn’t more sequencing it’s watching chromatin biology unfold in 4D.
How long do polarity proteins and their partners survive as a neuron prepares to migrate? Liam Hallada has answers today at the Neural Development GRC poster 13. Using a HaloTag pulse-chase imaging strategy he maps protein stability with spatial resolution in and around cell adhesions!
I didn’t realize my resting heart rate had a vacation mode. Turns out it does. 🏖️⌚
Proof that the sweetest part of Lisboa has Ecuadorian roots. 🍫🇪🇨 Do not miss it if you are on Rua da Praia in Baixa
What if you could watch chromatin change in live neurons…..IN REAL TIME?Share if this is your dream! My lab is making biosensors to make chromatin visible as neurons wire into circuits & are hiring an Associate Scientist to build, not just execute. Apply: stjude.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com/stjude/job/M...
Still one of the purest dopamine hits in science: Thank you for your submission. For one brief, beautiful moment… the paper is someone else’s problem. Reviewer 2 can cook me later🔥
Post-graduation jaunt through Santa Fe country. Beautiful enough to make you forget the altitude for a minute. Rattler skin reminder of who really runs the joint 😳
Mind-blowing cell action alert! Watching vesicle cargo lanes light up like a @FedEx highway in real-time under the #microscope. Who knew that a home-brewed phosphatidic acid imaging probe would look so stunning in fibroblasts? Too late for #FluorescenceFriday but just in time for #MicroscopyMonday
Here’s our newly developed enhancer nucleosome biosensor imaged in primary human fibroblast. Staygold in the biosensor allowed us to image at very high temporal resolution to see some amazing dynamics
The heart of our new work is to move beyond reference protein imaging; like labeled histones, and develop novel biosensors for epigenetic states. Here’s a video of LIVE neurons with our transcription starts site biosensor. The puncta are not individual TSSs but assemblies about the size of a TAD 🤩
This render shows just a subset of the chromatin species we discovered collaborating with Eric Betzig, Harald Hess and their teams at Janelia
We do all the microscopes 🔬 This is lattice light sheet imaging of the first time we saw neuronal chromatin compaction and nuclear condensation during differentiation. They condense their entire genome in 4 hours 🤩
Hey y’all 👋 repost magic appreciated. The Solecki lab is recruiting multiple postdocs at St. Jude for a chromatin imaging project at the edge of live-cell imaging, neuronal cell biology, chromatin regulation, and quantitative image analysis. Ever dreamed of touring chromatin like this? We CAN 🔥
A #neuron nucleus once gave me a heart-shaped “I love you back” #FluorescenceFriday ❤️ 5 μm later I’m still not over it. Science isn’t cold—it’s a labor of love. Post your fave “experiment loved me” story? 👇 #Microscopy #BrainLove #ValentinesDay
Mind blown 🤯 from Chris Laumonnerie's talk at our Department seminar! Newborn neurons in the developing brain aren't just cholesterol consumers... they're active PRODUCERS too! 💥 Paired with a brand-new biosensor that lets us watch this cholesterol economy in real time: slick data incoming 🤩
In uncertain times, it’s grounding to be reminded what still works. 💪 A strong score doesn’t drop alone. It reflects: team that execute, collaborators elevating the work & peers valuing rigorous work Surrounding yourself with phenomenal people + doing work you actually care about… is what’s needed
Today felt like a marathon I didn’t sign up for… and then the sky handed me a gold medal for finishing anyway. 🌅✨ #SunsetHealing #LifeLately #YouAreEnough #DecemberVibes
Parked my vehicle in the loading zone for 45 minutes and STILL no ticket 😂💀 When you absolutely, positively have to be 0.3 seconds closer to the door. #thursdayvibes #thursdayfun #BringYourOwnTraffickCones
Thanksgiving update: Turkey’s brined. Pie’s baked. Pickle slice just hit metaphase. Breaks from cutting edge science? Never heard of ’em. Happy Thanksgiving y’all 🥒🔬🦃 #Thanksgiving #CellBiology #NerdHumor #Science
Dressed up today just to remind the #chromatin it works for ME. #thursdayvibe #silverfox
