I mean, composition-wise, they are similar. One is just more stylized. If the graphic novel does utilize a lot of research taken from the book, while its creator claims to have done the research herself using a single source when the book's author used a wide variety of them, isn't that suspect?

An exceptionally blurry, REALLY old and edited photo of myself only depicting my head from the nose-up. I'm wearing a blue hoodie with the hood up and partially covered in snow, having just thrown a snowball while out in snowy weather. One of my hoodie strings is still up and in front of my face from the motion. I'm wearing glasses but my eyes are Photoshopped to be glowing white with steam rising from them. This is the closest I will ever get to posting a selfie on here because hot damn do I look like shit these days.

I experienced the worst nightmare I've had in years last night and it revolved around Kenma. When I woke up at 7:00AM I forced myself to get out of bed, terrified I'd fall back into the same dream. Then I ran and found Kenma. She's fine. I feel better now. #cats #catsofbluesky #kenma #calico #pets

... her friend with her thumb stuck out. And just like that, Haley’s HUD rebooted.
A wave of euphoria washed over her. The relief it brought was profound, so much so that Haley couldn’t stop herself from slipping into a deep sleep. Hardly, now keeping watch over Haley and her vitals from her own HUD, was equally relieved when the crowded warnings clogging up her display started disappearing in twos and threes. It would take a while for Haley’s reanimators to fully rebuild her hand, but Hardly was here now, and, much like Haley, she did not react well to fear. Fear made her angry. She was watching a recording from Haley’s point of view, showing how wildly her night had gone off-the-rails pretty much right away. Seeing firsthand just how close the girl’s brush with death had been made Hardly even angrier. Luckily, there was a big, clunky punching bag conveniently nearby that she could take that anger out on.
“So’s.” she began whilst cracking her knuckles and gaining altitude, “Seems ya been bullyin’ me mate, here. Hopin’ ta snap her up like a wee snack, eh? Well’s, now I’m here, feffernip. Lemme give ya some’fin’ good ta chew on.”
Hardly rushed the machine in an explosion of momentum. A whipcrack cut through the air a half-second after she pierced the sound barrier, still gaining speed while riding on a jet stream of azure flame with her wings blurred and her teeth grit.
The daffy contraption still hadn’t recovered from her one-two volley of concrete and was stuck half-buried in the wall to its left, its tendrils making a frantic but failing effort to dislodge its battered body. Hardly lent the junker a helping hand by hammering into its midsection with both of her pebble-sized fists, producing a teeth-achingly-loud “BRONG!” and damn near folding the thing in on itself before the laws of physics had their say and it was instead thrown back the way it had come, its prodigious bulk pirouetting through the air while simultaneously turning in a slow, cockeyed somersault.

Losing one of its appendages seemed to throw off the machine’s already fragile equilibrium; it was still bearing down on Haley, but every “step” it took was severely lopsided now, and it kept fumbling into walls, leaving craters and holes in them while its tendrils struggled to prevent it from falling down entirely. Despite this, what looked to be some kind of valve on its midsection just above its rows of upside-down buttons was moving independently of its limbs. It spun steadily counter-clockwise, and the longer it did so, the more Haley could see a familiar yellow light peeking through what she realized must be a hatch, while the light shining down upon the terrarium receded.
Haley wasn’t surprised to see that the terrarium was busted wide open now, and the sad, dying sprig of plant life within was already shedding its tiny leaves. A handful of them were visible on the floor, forming a piddly little trail that would soon be consumed by fire.
Feeling sympathetic toward a plant might just be another symptom of Haley’s burgeoning insanity, but at least it would be put out of its misery soon. Along with its shitty, obnoxious caretaker.
“Open up you stupid, worthless, loudmouth, UGLY piece of SH-”
“NNNNNNo-o-o-tice: superHHea-ea-ting UUnIIIIIIIt ventila-SHHHHH-TAKT.”
“FUCK YOU!”
At the same moment Haley pulled her internal trigger, familiar yellow light flooded the corridor, and she was bowled over by pressure and heat.

An excerpt from an in-progress story.

"Oh well. She’d cool down as she walked. Busting down the double-doors would release some heat as well, and it’d let Haley blow off a little emotional steam too. Her body still felt wracked by tension, and the growing familiarity of that tension was keeping her on edge.
She plodded onward, pivoting to the right where the hallway opened up and shooting a passing glance into the murk of the open room as she strode by.

“NNNNNNNNotice: vi-viable biomass detected-ed-ed-edKRRSHT.”
It was a good thing Haley had only eaten a protein bar that morning and then fasted for the rest of the day, otherwise she probably would have shit her pants right then and there. Some piece of junk in that big, open room had just BELTED out a flatulent, low-frequency hum that made her bowels quiver. Then it had the gall to cycle into what was probably its normal “speaking” tone while rattling out a stuttering status update. Haley was so blindsided by the noise that her vision whited out momentarily, but now she was full of indignant rage, plus sharp, recurring pangs of embarrassment that only stoked her anger all the more.

“It’s just some kind’a machine.” she told herself in between deep breaths, “Don’t let a machine throw you off your game. Keep moving.”
She hadn’t taken two steps before a heavy object landed on the floor, making it quake beneath her boots. Then she could both hear and feel something being dragged, the noise it made loud and raucous enough that it might be carving a trench.

“NNNNNNNNNNNNNotice: nutritional slurry ex-ex-exhausted. Power reserv-erv-erves at ten-point-twel-elve percent. Biomass reserves at zero-point-nine-thrEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE percent. Biorefinery capacity at twelve-point-eight-five percent. Superheating u-u-unit functioning norm-WARNING: Superheating unit output at ab-ab-ab-abnormally high levelSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS-TAKT.”"
