WHY DOES IT HAPPEN?

Imagery Rehearsal Therapy (IRT) is the gold-standard, evidence-based cognitive behavioral treatment for persistent nightmares. It works by helping you rewrite distressing dream scripts to include positive or neutral endings, then mentally rehearsing these new scenarios while awake to naturally retrain your brain's sleep-state responses.

How It Works: The 4-Step Process
You do not need to delve into the traumatic origins of the dreams during this process. The technique is straightforward:
1. Recall: Identify and write down the exact details of a recurring or distressing nightmare.
2. Rescript: Intentionally rewrite the dream's ending or middle to be pleasant, manageable, or empowering.
3. Rehearse: Visualize and practice your new, rewritten dream script for 10 to 20 minutes daily, preferably right before bed.
4. Repeat: Continue this daily practice until your brain naturally adapts to the new script, reducing the frequency and intensity of the nightmares.
