Update: Reached out to Julie @ For The Birds of Acadiana who put me in touch w Hailey who is local. The bebé is a federally protected black-bellied whistling duck. Hailey will transport the bebé to Julie’s Lafayette wildlife rehab. These ducklings are v fragile & the first 24-48 hours are crucial.
The bebé is very comfortable & calm. T-shirt cloths placed around the box + heating pad on low in half of box. Mashed eggs and water in two separate shallow lids. It’s so tiny.🥹 Here’s a photo of the bebé + 1980s McDonalds happy meal fry kid for scale. (Fry kid promptly removed after photo.)
#nolasky help please! My neighbor found this baby duck in their pool and me being the one who rescues all animals am now in charge of keeping this bebé alive. We are scouring the area for a momma duck. I have quickly researched short term feeding/water/heating pad, quiet environment etc. but help!
I got three emergency alerts and three critical imminent threat alerts when that final storm cell was approaching and moving over the area. Two separate rotations formed around us but only one went right over us.
