Two images of hitchBOT. A hitchhiking “robot” that was intended to travel from Boston to San Francisco in 2015. The first image is a happy go lucky robot constructed of a few buckets, leds and solar panels with blue arms and legs and yellow boots and gloves. It is sitting in a chair trying to hitch a ride.

Picture 2 shows the mutilated corps of the poor robot after being dismembered by someone in Philadelphia and dumped along the roadside in some trash.

We have two here. But I’m certain your talking about Fermilab. It was the largest ring until CERN came online. As a kid we used to go there a lot for fishing and some of their educational programs. I always loved how it gave us an international presence in the middle of cornfields.

The distinctive Wilson Hall at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (FNAL, aka Fermilab). A large concrete building with sloping walls on two sides rising to a midpoint where they straighten out and run parallel for the rest of its height. On the long face is set long rectangular windows recessed from the edge of the wall. On the end,the center is one large glass face up to the top with a similar lean and angle as the concrete outer walls. It is surrounded by a few small buildings and parking lots in the background are a mix of more buildings and woodland.

Dear graphic artists, As a cartographic professional I’d like to simply say… Don’t make infographics like this. It looks like shit.

An ugly attempt to shoehorn individual states in the United States of America into simple squares. The squares are colored based on a legend (not included since that was not the problem with this hideous thing). Inside each square is the state it is supposed to represent. About the only good thing about the placement of states is that the east coast states are on the east coast and same with the west coast. Inside though it turns to an unmitigated shit show. Wisconsin is due north of Indiana. Illinois is south of Iowa, north of Missouri, and just east of Nebraska. Tennessee is south of West Virginia and due east of Kentucky. And finally somehow Oklahoma is now south of New Mexico and borders Mexico.

Onyx just thinks we’re all weak and has to take to the ramparts to keep us safe from the birbs, tree rats, and buns that are flitting and running all around the outside space. She’s on the job for us 24/7 (until is feeding time or treat time)

I interrupted the morning grooming hour. The queen is not happy.

Final stop on the celebration tour was to pay respects to the victims of the SS Eastland disaster and get some quiet time to reflect. (the OH has a connection to this place and event so we try to stop when we are in the area)

On the way out of the Red Lion we had to stop in the alley across the way that moved one of my 2nd cousin’s father-in-law up the list to Public Enemy Number One, after the death of his partner in crime, Dillinger was killed coming out of the Biograph theater.

I finally managed to stay awake to watch the first ship enter the Soo Locks for the Great Lakes shipping season. Watching the special live stream from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on one screen and StreamTime Live feed on the other.
