He did live a LOT of life in 40 years (Klondike gold rush, photographed the Russian-Japanese war, sailed a yacht to Australia, etc)
Went to Jack London state historic park on the other side of the hills. His wife built this house after he died at 40 of kidney disease from mercury poisoning and I need this window seat Also went down to the ruins of Wolf House, which they were building when it caught fire overnight from oily rags

Octopus update: he's the best frivolous $20 purchase I've ever made, I spend a lot of time lying in bed with him sitting on me as a book/iPad rest, and I've named him Queequeg
Obviously we bought a Blåhaj (and a mini monkey for Little Kid) but my $20 giant velour octopus wins (currently being a lap buddy)
Update: I forgot I’d seen those water lilies before! they’re in the permanent collection at the other museum and here’s me with them in 2012
Anyway it was a lovely (childfree!!) day and I'm excited to be able to go back over the year. Just spending a couple hours in each museum and getting to be outside when it was 90 back home was great. As we left this girl was doing her quiñce pics outside
Favorite art here included Seneb, a 4,000yo very lifelike carving, the Cezanne and Picasso next to each other, the tiny Seurat Eiffel tower, and ok this Renoir because kids are all the same
Anyway the special exhibit here was mostly not very photogenic grave goods because the Etruscans left very little behind, but I loved the Little Guys on this bowl and also this mirror with holes in it so the living couldn't use it
Oh wait I forgot to show this lovely and very tiny photo Monet took at Giverny, which has his shadow in it
At this point we drove ten minutes across the city to another museum for art adventure part 2, which more than recouped the cost of the membership
I didn't grab pics of the Canale, Whistler, or Turner pictures, but this Sargeant one is of the palazzo where Monet stayed. Also grabbed a Renoir just for @juggleduck.bsky.social 😉
I wanted to see the Monet in Venice exhibit at the De Young and figured out I could get a disabled membership with 2 guest passes for very little more than 2 exhibit tickets so we had an adventure in art today
We bought a blood pressure monitor online so now we are being recommended a variety of medical devices, including digital thermometers, glucose meters, pulse oximeters, and the 1981 movie Body Heat starring William Hurt
