1/3: Our next departure is out today, with Paul leading 3 American guests on a blended battlefield tour, First and Second World War sites. Dunkirk | Ypres | Verdun | Muese Argonne
A very busy August for SGWT continues, with our next tour out today. We are joined by a Canadian family who are with us to discover the acheivements of the CEF around Arras in 1917. #OnTourWithSGWT
Today, a group of British pals set off to follow two men who fought across Arras & Bullecourt. With their expert guide Paul, the research he has conducted & a little help from some cool tech, that blend enables us to put our guests in exact spots that their relatives saw action. #OnTourWithSGWT #WW1
1/4: A day in the life of a battlefield guide. Watch this to get a glimpse of what really happens on tour. Every guest brings their own story, and half our work happens before we ever meet them.
1/2: Another departure is out today. This time, we're supporting another business by supplying one of our top guides in Normandy, bringing the history to life, facts straight & spirits high.
3/3: And I think that's what life is all about. We'd love to see you on tour with us soon. 📩Contact us here: sophie@sophiesgreatwartours.com
1/3: Behind the scenes on our recent company recce to share history & meet new suppliers.
On this day in 1940, the Battle of Britain begins. Churchill's words still define how we see this struggle, "Never in a field of human conflict, was so much owed, by so many, to so few." #BoB86 #WeWillRememberThem #RAF
1/2: Our next tour is underway & it's another scorcher out there! We have 2 British guests experiencing the #1WW battlefields for the 1st time. Our job here at SGWT is to make this enormous subject understandable & relatable.
1/2: A few pictures from our most recent battlefield tour. A lovely Australian couple came to walk in the footsteps of 3 of their relatives. Here you see where William Higgins was originally buried by the Germans, part of the mass grave they dug in 1916.
Hands up who's staying up? #MexvEng #ComeOnEngland #3Lions #WorldCup2026
1/3: Happy 250th birthday to the USA! Today of all days feels right to say a huge thank you to every American guest who's walked the ground with us. From the wheatfields of Belleau Wood and the ridges of the Meuse-Argonne to the beaches of Normandy and the foxholes of Bastogne.
Our next private tour departs tour. Watch the video to find out more! 📩 If you'd like to take your own very personal tour uncovering your family history, get in touch today: sophie@sophiesgreatwartours.com #OnTourWithSGWT #BattlefieldTours #1WW
On this day in 1914... The shots that would change the world forever...
Tonight on BBC 1 at 19:30, 'What Happened at the Somme'. Tune in & get a glimpse of what we do here at SGWT. But more importantly, follow the story & words of Victor Hember, a young man that gave his life but left a legacy through his letters home. #OnTourWithSGWT #Somme110 #WeWillRememberThem
1/2: Our next tour is out this week & we're guiding 2 British guests across key D-Day sites of the British & American sectors. From bridges & beaches to the quiet rows of headstones. Our trips are private, personal & built around you.
1/4: Our next tour is underway & this is possibly the most complex itinerary we have put together. Over 10 days, 2 American guests will follow in the footsteps of the 482nd AAA Battalion, tracing their father's wartime journey from Utah Beach all the way to modern-day Czechia.
1/2: I didn't post yesterday, 6th June. I didn't forget, I was just head down checking everything for our next June departures, attention to detail is everything. And our marketing department is...well me! And definitely no AI pumping out the latest cliches on an imp anniversary.
1/3: Today I had the privilege of presenting to several hundred Year 9 students about the Battle of the Somme. SGWT loves to support young historians whenever we can. We covered a lot of ground in an hour, but this is how I finished.
1/2: Our next departure is out today, with Nick leading a father and daughter making their first journey to the Western Front together.
1/2: On this day in 1915, the Lusitania is sunk. In 18 minutes, one of the great ocean liners was gone. At 14:10 off the Old Head of Kinsale, Ireland (then part of the United Kingdom) a single torpedo fired from German U-boat U-20 struck RMS Lusitania.
1/3: What you see here is one guest standing in the French 1914 trench line, the others in the German trenches. Two sides of No Man's Land just metres apart.
2/2: And to the incredible SGWT team who planned, prepared, and guided every single one of these tours with such care and expertise, I could not be prouder. You are the heart of this company. 📸Here are a few behind the scenes snaps. #BattlefieldTours #OnTourWithSGWT #WWI #WWII
1/2: April you were amazing! SGWT took guests from around the world to the beaches of Normandy, trenches in Verdun, even all the way to Lake Como. To every guest who trusted us with their travel, time & family stories, thank you. It means everything.
1/2: Tour #10 of the month is out this week. This time Sophie is alongside a former 3* General & a veteran of Afghanistan. We are exploring Verdun, Saint-Mihiel & the Meuse Argonne campaigns.
1/2: Today we commemorate ANZAC Day. It marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian & New Zealand forces during the First World War.
In the footsteps of Grandad. Our next tour is out & Sophie is leading two lovely American guests across the St Mihiel Salient and the Meuse Argonne, following the 58th Infantry Regiment. These personal tours are highly emotional but an honour to be a part of. #BattlefieldTours #OnTourWithSGWT
Tour #8 of April is complete. Two guests on two wheels across the Ypres Salient. What a lovely way to explore this sacred land. #BattlefieldTours #OnTourWithSGWT
Our latest tour departed today with 2 guests who are no strangers to Great War battlefields but who chose SGWT to help them make sense of a region entirely new to them: Verdun & Saint-Mihiel. Sophie will be guiding them through some of the most strategically significant ground of the 1WW.
What do you do when you have just run the Paris marathon...come on tour with us of course! Kudos to our next set of guests who have today spent their time in Normandy uncovering stories of the American sector.
