Dragonflies are remarkable. Not only do they pre-date the dinosaurs but they also have the distinction of being the most successful predator in the animal kingdom, successfully capturing 90-95% of the prey they hunt. 📸: Jane Chandler

Cissbury Ring is the largest hillfort in Sussex and one of the county’s most important prehistoric sites ⛰️ Neolithic flint mines were worked here over 5,000 years ago, leaving behind an undulating landscape of pits and mounds that can still be seen today. 📸: John Manley [1/2]

Spot the lizards... Sand lizards are one of the UK's rarest reptiles, favouring warm, sandy soils, such as those found on lowland heath. With their egg laying season between June and July, it's a good idea to keep dogs on the lead to avoid disturbing their nests. 📸: Steph Horn
