Interests in ML and social aspects of tech. Building For You feed: Hobby project: linklonk.com
Would love to compare For You vs Discover like rates and show less like this. For You "show less like this" rate at the page level (30 items) is 0.4% and like rate - 19.5%
Which means For You is only ~8x smaller than Discover. That helps plan for the "worst case" load. I see a slow but steady growth in For You DAUs:
The defunct Skygaze feed shows up higher in the feed search results for query "for you". I think it used to not be the top result. @alexbenzer.com is that a regression from the recent search change?
The setup never changed. The feed runs on my home PC. The VPS on OVH is simply a proxy that exposes it to the world. It looks like OVH had issues for ~1 hour based on the VPS load. They shut down the server a 4am, it came back up at 5am. Then it went down again at 7am and came back after 10min.
Ah, I see what you mean - the last post does not show up fully. I think this is an issue with the Bluesky client UI. In the feed view the scrollable list does not account for the bottom bar? @samuel.fm
For You now onboards new users with a curated list of interest posts to like. It's an upgrade over: "go like some posts elsewhere and come back".
The change is live! Thanks @samuel.fm for getting it in and fixing the unit test! @devingaffney.com @aendra.com
What additional interests would you like to see? Fandom? Furry? Memes?
For You will be down for ~20-60 minutes - I will be upgrading my computer's ram from 96GB to 192GB. I've been hitting uncomfortably high memory usage levels (90%+) and it is time to bite the bullet. I bought an identical kit a year ago and the new kit is exactly 7x more expensive.
The pin button would do wonders there to feed adoption! When you open a custom feed for the first time I think it is not obvious what the pin button in the top right does. I would add a bigger header "Pin this feed to add it as a tab to your timeline" for users who have no custom feeds pinned yet.
Have you accidentally pressed "show less like this" when you meant "more like this"? Or liked a post that you feel ruined your For You? You can now correct that in foryou.club/profile You can delete your "show more/less" and likes there.
I tested if we could keep just the new penalty logic and get rid of the "penalize the first 1000 likers" logic altogether. And that test was actually quite negative compared to the original logic: - 3.4% more people pressed "show less" on a given day - 2.5% fewer total "show less" interactions
Launched an improvement to how "show less like this" works in For You. Results from the A/B test: - 7.3% fewer people press "show less" on a given day - 15.5% fewer "show less" interactions Details below 🧵
The earliest cohort of users who started using For You in July-September 2025 tend to use the feed more.
Some more data from the For You perspective. This graph uses the date of the first and the last visit of the For You feed users. This is a bit different from Patrick's analysis.
If your non-Following feeds (For You, Discover) are stuck showing you content in one language then check whether you have Content Languages setting set to that language. To fix it and see content without the language filtering: 1. Go to Settings > Languages 2. Uncheck all "Content Languages"
For You tech support is here! The reason you are seeing any post in For You is because it was liked by someone who also liked some of the same posts as you. From the feed description: It finds people who liked the same posts as you, and shows you what else they’ve liked recently.
PSA: You can now see how many impressions and likes your posts got through the For You feed: foryou.club/stats The stats used to work only for active users of For You. Now they work for everyone.
I think the source of your show less are generally popular posts. We should probably experiment with a higher penalty on popularity. For example, when I move it from the default 0.3 to 0.4 for you, it removes all generally popular posts (>1K likes) from your top 60.
Updating stereotypes about Bluesky one screenshot at a time. Maybe it is a selection bias of the users who chose to use For You, but politics has been getting less prevalent in For You than before.
Some Bluesky clients like @boostblue.bsky.social and @skywalker.thereforeiam.eu can hide Following content from other feeds like For You
The Bluesky outage from the For You perspective: - started around 6:30pm ET - traffic dropping from 25 requests per second down to 3.5 - recovered around 8:40pm
The void hears you! 1. Go to: Settings > Content & Media > Following Feed Preferences 2. Uncheck "Show samples of your saved feeds in your Following feed"
I know what could be causing this. Go to Settings > Languages and check if you have "Content languages" set to German. If yes, then this is why you only see German content in your Discover feed. Try removing all languages to disable this filtering completely:
It looks like it was a connection issue from my VPS to my home PC over Tailscale:
Checking the results of the A/B test after 5 days - we are already statistically significant at reducing the number of users who press "show less like this" in For You. A 5% reduction! 11% fewer "show less like this" interactions 0.7% more likes on posts 0.3% fewer feed loads per user
