“Did Dhoin speak with you today?”
“He did. His voice was loud and sharp and made me look down.”
His father thought a little while. “What were his words saying?”
“He said that we couldn’t tell who wished to court if they didn’t have the bright feathers.”
“Does that make sense?”
Kiushoa’s voice and shoulders tightened. “Not to me. The ones seeking to court could gather and choose a new symbol. A different feather, or an orange bead for their hair if they wanted to reflect the mainu-bird color.”
“That’s a good suggestion. Why might his voice have been loud when he spoke of this?”
Kiushoa thought for a while. “I am rolling your question around in my mind, BBeo. It is only making echoes.”
“Hmm,” his father replied. “What if you rolled it around in your heart?”
“Hmm,” Kiushoa echoed back and then was silent for long minutes. “This is harder.”
The soft evening stretched out and the embers of their hearth glowed. Finally Kiushoa spoke. “I think that he is missing his Laina.”
His father turned his head to face him briefly. “Say more?”
“I think that the courting feathers remind him of his days courting Laina and then he feels joy and then he feels the grief of her death.”

Ylluashao blessed the people who stepped through her water to approach her. Sometimes it was thought that the act cleansed away sadness. Others thought that the act cleansed away guilt — this was a thought had by the guilty, for they wished their guilt to be gone and stop stealing their sleep.

The priestess sat quietly with the young man. “Here in the presence of Ylluashao, with the drops on your feet and mine, you may speak to me as if directly to her. I will not remember your words, for they are in the ear of the goddess. I will barely remember what I say. The sound of my words will not be in my memory but once in a while the feeling of the words will remain.”

The young man was Gaman and his hollowed face and blackened eyes spoke of suffering without relief. “I cannot sleep! I have not slept in moons and moons and the monsters plague my waking hours.”

She is a really nice kid! Unfortunately, I just spent two hours spreading out at the library and I'm gonna hafta put her through the wringer and she's going to not keep a promise to yLuashao.

Photo take on island of Unst in Shetland, fields run to an inlet of the sea and end in sheer cliffs. Into those cliffs are carved vertical gashes which have me absolutely convinced they are claw marks.

#QueerWriters My #HelpDesk week was just fine, in fact I made nice progress, three scenes left in February... My #RelicWorld Saturday was spectacular! Went to the #Library and really spread out and made a proto spreadsheet!

A beautiful table at the Meriden Library in Meriden, New Hampshire is covered with a post-it notes which appear to be marching the long way across the table in color lines. blue squares, pink butterflies, and green, purple, and blue stars! by the time i was done there were pink stars and light blue stars as well and I needed more stars but I had run out of stars, so clearly i need more star shaped post its in different colors. there are also a big handful of colored gel pens.
I love libraries.
