I took the Roosevelt Island Tram yesterday — and the views are hard to beat! It's one of New York City's most unique commutes, and I'm looking forward to continuing our work with the State to make the experience even better for everyone who rides it.

The stats on recent accidents and fatalities involving e-vehicles are heartbreaking — and the status quo cannot continue. That’s why the NYC Council announced this week that we are launching a comprehensive legislative review to ensure that pedestrians and riders alike can navigate our city safer.

Researchers from Cornell Tech are using advanced AI and aerial data to map individual trees and the cooling effect they have on our city to find new solutions for beating the heat. By determining how much shade is delivered to specific sidewalks, we can identify our most vulnerable areas.

Education is the antidote to hate — and nowhere is that mission upheld more strongly than 3GNY. As great leaders of our Jewish community, 3GNY has educated nearly 40,000 audience members last year alone on the horrors of the Holocaust. Thank you for the great work you do every day.

The New York City Council is convening a major hearing on e-bike and e-scooter safety. With this comprehensive legislative review, we will work to ensure that riders and pedestrians alike will be able to more safely navigate our streets.

My statement following yesterday’s tragic accident.

As a former restaurant owner, I know that every customer—inside or outside—can make or break your bottom line. That’s why the New York City Council is pushing to make outdoor dining year-round again.

Paraprofessionals are the unsung heroes of our education system, but many of them cannot afford their basic needs. That’s why the Council passed the Respect Check Act — which will give paras a retention payment of $10,000 that will give them the ability to support themselves and their families.

Transitioning away from horse-drawn carriages in Central Park is the responsible path to take. With Romanch’s Law, the Council is focused on doing just that, while also supporting the workers — creating pathways to new employment opportunities in the tourism and hospitality sectors.

Our nonprofits are the heartbeat of the city. You are some of our city’s most valuable resources, and for that, I’m incredibly grateful.

Lieutenant Kenneth Phelan was an FDNY lieutenant who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty on September 11. In Maspeth, we are co-naming a street in Lt. Phelan’s honor as part of the Council’s ongoing effort to commemorate first responders like him who gave their lives that day.

As antisemitism and hate-fueled violence continue to rise, we must turn down the temperature and stand united against every act of hate targeting Jewish New Yorkers, AAPI New Yorkers, and every community. We will never allow hate to become normalized in our city.

The federal government is threatening to move the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers office from 26 Federal Plaza to New Jersey. That’s not just a waste of resources. It's a security risk, too. Yesterday, I rallied with the workers’ union, Local 98, to say that the office must stay here.

I’d say this week went swimmingly.

Last month, 18-year-old Romanch Mahajan was killed after he was thrown from a horse-drawn carriage in Central Park.   While there is nothing we can do to change the tragedy of his death, passing a law to transition away from horse-drawn carriages is one way to keep his blessed memory alive.

Today, I'm announcing my support for Romanch's Law.   It's time for New York City to begin the transition away from horse-drawn carriages in Central Park — for the safety of New Yorkers, visitors, and the horses themselves.
