“We think that the real treasure is the friends you make along the way,” Jared teased as the four competitors stripped out of their clothing under the watchful eyes of the grinning judges. “And what better way to thank your friends than to give them handicaps for a race.” He gestured, and a beach towel was pulled away from a table on the far side of the pool, revealing a collection of bondage gear. “Starting with Deanna, each of our competitors will be choosing one penalty from this table, and one competitor to attach it to.”

“Oh, hell.” Raine’s murmur was soft enough that Kitty didn’t think the cameras had picked it up. She plastered on a smile, looking over the eight people she’d helped manipulate out.

“Take off your dress and step under the light,” Isaiah commanded.

“Yes, sir,” Usha said. After two years of nearly monthly punishments, she should be used to the humiliation, but a lifetime of Doctrinal training was impossible to shake loose. She reached up, unbuttoning the top of her dress, and pulled it over her head. Underneath, she was entirely naked, every inch of her skin shaved smooth. She trembled as Isaiah’s gaze as she set the dress down on the floor, feeling his eyes roving over her round breasts, the curve of her hips, the folds of her crotch. Every time, it was like being devoured by a hungry serpent, the warmth of shame and a hidden trace of unwelcome lust spreading across her cheeks as she stepped onto the black square in the middle of the room.

This time, training and attitude were in perfect alignment. “There’s no challenge I’m not up for,” Lora said confidently.

Cynthia’s smile grew. “Bold girl,” she purred. Lora shivered again, but met Cynthia’s gaze evenly. “Well, then,” Cynthia continued. “Up for an audition?”

As Malone rounded the doorframe, they could see why Shim was nervous.

She let go of the scroll, glancing out of the corner of her eye. It took all of Remedy’s magic not to immediately overbalance, but she was able to calmly unscroll it and lay it out on the counter. “Looks simple enough,” she said. “Roving clockwork soldiers in the Gal-Fadeen netherrealm, a blocked flow. Realm shift. And it’s an upper layer, so I don’t think we’ll need the support. But thanks for your interest.”

Serafina giggled. She leaned in over Remedy, her cool hand laying on top of the other adventurer’s as she peered at the details on the scroll. “Are you sure?” she asked, leaning in close. “I can be very… supportive.”

His debts had been well above her value, and he had also been claimed and sold to an underground casino to work as a performer.

Sadly, Uma Sandoval’s accounts were never verified. One week after she made her claims, she and her editor Ember Bailey were involved in a terrible accident when their car’s brakes failed, sending them plunging into the Atlantic Ocean. Neither woman’s body was ever found, and no record of the interviews they claimed to have made or the details of their supposed investigation was uncovered by police. The official police statement was that Sandoval and Bailey had been hyping up non-existent crimes to promote their podcast, and had died due to drunk driving after a celebration.

As Blondie returned to her seat, listening to Eun-Ji’s muffled wails turning into garbled laughter again as the frat boys descended on her twitching soles, toes still bent back and tied off, Rose and Carmelita entered the ring. The crowd cheered as the pair slipped through the ropes, each wearing their emblazoned string bikinis and sneakers.

Derek stepped up to the side of the ring, waving his arms for the crowd’s attention. “Our third round brings two of the feistiest ladies of Grove State head to
head! In the red corner, representing the queen bees of the campus at Beta Alpha Epsilon! Last year’s undisputed champion, standing at 5’6”, it’s Rose!”

Rose grinned, waving to the crowd as those she was at a pageant and not a bout. She set her water bottle on the edge of the ring, pulling her long dark hair back
into a ponytail as she looked over her rival, and tossed her towel over the ropes.

“And in the blue corner, having led the tennis team to victory this year and won the election for Gamma Alpha Mu, and also clocking in at 5’6”, it’s Carmelita!”

Carmelita pumped her arms in the air, turning slowly and tossing back her hair so that the pink undercolor flashed in the sun. The dark-skinned athlete turned back to Rose, grinning as Derek continued.

“Our challengers have agreed to wear sneakers for this match, to help them out. With that in mind, no kicking the face,” Derek said to a chorus of laughter. “Those are your moneymakers.”

“Fuck you, Derek,” Carmelita said cheerfully. She flexed her arm for the crowd. “This is my moneymaker.”
