Tracking my media intake. Movies, comics, books. Sometimes screenwriting. Often procrastinating.
Semifinals! SHANE BLACK’S A CHRISTMAS CAROL is a self-aware buddy-action flick I wrote as a gift to myself, while also being an absolute prick. “You want voice? I’ll give you fucking voice…” #scriptsky
I thought I’d choke on the One Wish Willow conceit, but Obsession leans into it hard. Blumhouse is gonna ideate entire universes out of one Wham-O shelf.
Puroresu should be in Japanese, and football should be in Spanish. (Nobody’s signing up for a “trial” for another damn service.)
Superior Foes is Justice League Antarctica, and I mean that as the highest of compliments. Schlubs are my wheelhouse and what I love to write.
I’m more invested in this G1 Climax than I’ve been in years. Goto, Shingo, and ZSJ are laying the groundwork for the future of #NJPW.
I adored this mini as a kid because I think every generation wants their own X-Men, even if it’s written by 40-somethings. (That and Chris Bachalo.)
Filling in a comics blind spot with the Shira Brie run. Between this and New Teen Titans, what was going on in the early ’80s with romantic interests turning out to be duplicitous turncoats?
SHANE BLACK’S A CHRISTMAS CAROL is a PAGE Quarterfinalist! Lots of familiar names on the list. But the undisputed #1 thumbstopper title? TIME HUMPERS. #scriptsky
Heaven forbid anything awful happens to this lonely bookish woman. God, I love this spooky-ass show.
The ascension of NJPW’s New Mutants has been incredible: Oiwa, Shota, Yuto-Ice, Newman. Not you, Uemura. Find your edge. Far too much criticism gets spat at Gedo, and nowhere near enough credit goes to Zack Sabre Jr.
As an upstart brand, AEW understands the current media landscape better than WWE. Opportunity for new eyes? Give ’em something to see. Better yet, something to talk about. Consistency creates brand loyalty. In today’s wrasslin’, Takeshita is Mr. Consistency. Dude doesn’t miss.
SHANE BLACK’S A CHRISTMAS CAROL is a Script Pipeline Quarterfinalist! On Christmas Eve, a Hollywood screenwriter and self-proclaimed piece of shit, seconds from a career-ending scandal, gets a price on his head and faces three twisted reflections of himself: past, present, and future. #scriptsky
Back on my bullshit #scriptsky. Some inspirational screencaps from my latest and greatest. Swinging for the fences with this bad boy. “Swing and a...”
Putting the “real” sports away. I’m here for the fake tournament with actual drama. YOSHI-HASHI trying to survive Aaron Wolf in the Road to G1 Climax.
Sports! Man... the World Cup has its hooks in me like the Olympics.
Goodnight Punpun. Utterly bleak and off-puttingly strange. We have a winner in my pile of manga.
Widow's Bay. "Does my demeanor suggest that I just engaged with someone inside a crawl space?"
Maximalism. An aesthetic of excess, abundance, and complexity. That’s AEW, from its art direction to its in-ring style. Wringing my hands over the top three matches on this PPV.
Long-time listener, first-time caller to #FirstPageFriday. DIVE BAR. Resigned to small-town life, a sharp-tongued dive bar waitress falls for a mythic were-shark drowning his demons one pitcher at a time. As their bond grows, she discovers saving him might be the key to saving herself. #scriptsky
And with Delicious in Dungeon, my Books-A-Million journey into manga comes to an end. At least until the next Billy Bat comes out.
Everyone wants to be Funk. Mox isn’t Funk. He’s something all-new, all-different.
ShotDeck making me feel “productive” at work, researching reference imagery for my latest and greatest action feature. #scriptsky
Really nice bookends, visually and emotionally. The grenade... and then shooting someone in the back.
When I started reading the X-family, it was Inferno, so every book had this Nightmare on Elm Street kookiness baked in. New Mutants #67 was my first issue. Blevins, man. Underappreciated X-artists, along with Stroman and Pollina.
In junior high, The Punisher was the thing, but I never got it. The fantastic always tantalized me more, and I never dropped in on anything but the most clichéd issue. In War Zone, Dixon and JRJR are the bar.
AEW excels at having all 31 flavors of wrasslin’. Main-event comedy match… and it was a riot.
Scriptnotes talked competency porn this week, which made me think of Michael Mann. In the Grey is Guy Ritchie doing Michael Mann. (I dug it. Didn’t dig the title, Uncle Guy. Needed to be The Henchmen or some shit.)
