me: all-time, gotta be walkaway by cory doctorow. but recently i read amal el-mohtar's seasons of glass and iron and v v v much enjoyed the voice to it, as well as the myriad short stories that were simultaneously in english and i believe arabic? cool touch. beyond that i've been on a weirdo comics kick; i read v for vendetta by alan moore, then reread tom king's jenny sparks book (fantastic, but up its own ass - pretty standard king fare) and zoe thorogood's it's lonely at the center of the earth, which, as always, wrecked me a lil bit; the rapid transitions in artstyle are Really interesting, and it's funny to read about a woman struggling with the ways that people she considers legends are calling her the future of the artform while simultaneously utterly agreeing with people calling her that.

well that’s because as britain industrialized and mining company towns became more and more prevalent, some people started asking questions about the labor conditions. to quell this and keep the populace occupied, the companies would basically just buy instruments for the people and fund lessons to play them, causing the making of music to become a major part of these towns’ cultures, which then produced the rise of british wind bands as a musical movement in the late nineteenth and eventual twentieth centuries. in short, the timeline is basically, a mining company gave its workers bread and circuses -> holst’s planets symphony -> the intro to all you need is love by the beatles -> toby fox’s battle tower theme from pokémon sword and shield
