Every now and then I get a dumb idea and wish I could draw it, but I can't draw, so I don't. The idea that someone else might just prompt a genAI spurred me to suck it up and make bad art today. It sucks, it's probably only funny to a few people, and I should be embarrassed, BUT IT WAS FUN

A truly godawful line drawing on lined notebook paper of a horned demon with a battle axe and some sort of hooded shrouded thing, maybe Death? relaxing bubbling water. The horned demon is smiling with its eyes closed and the shrouded figure (who has smoking eyes no other visible features) is raising a glass. A sign or banner above them reads "HARBINGER HOT SPRINGS."

The drawing is a mix of pencil and pen because I failed to notice that I'd grabbed a pen halfway through until I needed to erase something. That's also why the demon has an extra elbow. Fuckin' oops.

The City of Oakland is seeking a waiver to move the Flock proposal forward despite its defeat last night. The matter has been agendized at tomorrow’s meeting of the Rules and Legislation Committee, Thursday November 20, at 10:30am, City Hall (meeting details).

We need as many community members as possible to show up and call out this flagrant overreach. Unfortunately, because the agenda was posted less than 24 hours before the meeting, the window for e-comments has already closed.

If you cannot go to the meeting, please email the members of the Rules and Legislation Committee, copying the City Clerk so that it will go on public record. Contact information and sample language below. Please spread the word!

SAMPLE E-MAIL AND TALKING POINTS

Subject: Reject the overreach of the Flock proposal and open public comment

Dear [Councilmember's name],

I am writing to express my outrage over the attempt to push through the Flock proposal after its clear defeat at the Public Safety Committee meeting last night. Hundreds of Oakland residents showed up to voice their opposition, and the Privacy Advisory Commission also voted against this proposal. This attempt to bypass the will of your constituents is a flagrant overreach.

I urge you to reject this undemocratic move and stand with the people of Oakland. Additionally, given the last-minute addition of the Flock item to the agenda, I demand that the Rules and Legislation Committee immediately open public comment to all residents wishing to participate via Zoom, without requiring 24 hours' notice.

We must have a fair and transparent process, and that means rejecting this blatant overstep, and allowing all voices to be heard on this critical issue. Thank you for your urgent attention.
