new from me !!!!! We analyze late-time JWST/NIRCam imaging of the extremely-long GRB 250702B & discover a very massive, dusty, + bright host. We find blue emission at the transient location, but it's not obvious if this is just underlying galaxy or from the transient. 🧪🔭☄️👩🔬🦖 arXiv link in reply!

Hi could you confirm the photo being used for this story is of the correct object? 'ESO 137-001' is not mentioned in the paper, the featured image uses exclusively HST data, and the morphology of the galaxy in the JWST imaging (see Fig. 1) does not seem to match the galaxy in the featured photo.

A new NOIRLab composite image featuring X-ray, ultraviolet, optical, and near-infrared data of the luminous fast blue optical transient (LFBOT) named AT 2024wpp. The transient is the bright spot at the upper right edge of its host galaxy. ☄️🔭🧪👩🔬🦖

I'm still analyzing our data and putting it in the context of the >10 (!) papers on this object. We're all still not sure what exactly caused GRB 250702B. The results of the study I'm leading on this should be out soon with more clues for this mystery! For now... the @stsci.edu compilation ❤️
When we proposed for the observations in July, we weren't sure if the host galaxy was two galaxies merging or one viewed edge-on. The JWST imaging shows so clearly it's just one with a dark dust band! 📸: Localization video from the release by NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center and A. Mellinger, CMU

I was so lucky to visit Kitt Peak last week. They gave us an in-depth tour of the Mayall Telescope (home of DESI!) and the WIYN Observatory (home of NEID!).
