The Diamonds are not the giant tyrants we see in SU. They are /completely/ different characters and have original designs and backstories. White is the aloof mysterious scientist, Blue is the wild card wine aunt with aggression issues, and Yellow is a hard-ass with a deep distrust of Hematites.

Our protag is Hema, the smallest & 'worst' of the Hematites. He's weak, slow, has average sight and smell, trips over his own feet... but when the Hematites are tested by the Diamonds in chapter 1, he's the only one that uses his wits instead of his power. Thus, White chooses him as her bodyguard.

As for the second part! My interest in GT is so broad I could not pick a singular favorite embrace, BUT, I am a huge fan of the 'tiny is big enough to wrap arms around giant's neck in a hug, and the giant is tucking their head down and using both their hands to cup the tiny to their chest' pose.
