We did field work last week in the large area affected by the Västmanland wildfire that happened 12 years ago. Lots of deciduous regeneration and a thick Polytrichum moss layer!
We're searching for a postdoc fellow to conduct research on biological nitrogen fixation in boreal forests! The postdoc will join a dynamic and fun research group in Umeå. Deadline Aug 27th. Reach out if you have any questions! www.slu.se/en/about-slu... @michael-gundale.bsky.social
Currently doing field work in interior Alaska, where black spruce reigns supreme 👑
In beautiful Vienna for #EGU25! Looking forward to a fun week. Check out my poster on Wednesday morning for some boreal nitrogen excitement 🌳🌲
In their 2021 study, @j-karst.bsky.social et al found that 13 years of N addition in boreal aspen forests was linked with more "high biomass" ectomycorrhizas. Does that translate to more fungal necromass in the soil?...
Happy new year! Soon back to the office after a break filled with skiing, family, and cozy evenings.
Team work makes the dream work! We collected a lot of different samples over the past week and can’t wait to see the results.
We are growing birch seedlings in sterile conditions, and two weeks ago we inoculated half of them with a soil solution. Really neat to see the mycorrhizas develop in real time (the photo on the right, with brown-ish medium)!
Please share!! We’re recruiting a 4-year PhD student to investigate sources of biological nitrogen fixation in boreal forests. You'll work in beautiful northern Sweden and be based at SLU in Umeå. See link for more details! 🦠🌲🌳🍂 www.slu.se/en/about-slu...
