Digging through Lantern to see if I can find some confirmation of Leisen's claims about a cut original ending to Eagle and the Hawk and have stumbled on the regular section in the Motion Picture Herald where theater owners give capsules reviews of movies based on how they played for their audiences

I'M NO ANGEL: Mae West-Did the best business of the year on this one. Whether they like her or not they all come out to see her. The church people clamor for clean pictures, but they all come out to see Mae West and stay away from a clean, sweet picture like "The Cradle Song."-D. B. Fiske, Fiske Theatre, Oak Grove, La. RODDY MCDOWELL: I was living in New York when they offered me the episode, "People Are The Same All Over", doing theater and live television. I hadn't been in front of a motion picture camera in about six years. I wasn't too interested until they told me who was going to direct it and then I said I'd do it on one condition: that Mitch would agree to show me his prints of Death Takes A Holiday and Murder At The Vanities. (I should have asked for Cradle Song too!)
Mitch agreed and he gave a dinner party for me and showed the films. Working with him was a delight. I felt I learned so much about comedy in that week, even though the story was a drama. And I felt he had a very definite air of the '30s about him.

From Chierichetti’s Leisen book on the state of Swing High, Swing Low’s print availability. Wonder if a print has been found from a non-American archive for the Il Cinema Ritrovato showing or the partial 16mm blowup is what we’ll be seeing…

“ Author's note: When Fox bought the rights to Burlesque, Paramount may have sent over the original camera negative, as was often done. In the late '60s, The American Film Institute asked both studios to search for the film and all that turned up was an incomplete nitrate release print at Paramount. Leisen's 16mm print was borrowed from the friend to whom he had willed it and the missing three reels were blown up to 35mm.
Thus the film exists now but hardly in a condition to showcase Leisen's beautiful imagry. It is also available on home video.” From Chierichetti’s Leisen book on the state of Swing High, Swing Low’s print availability.

If that wasn’t sufficient to raise suspicions, Osmanovic Thunström planted many clues in the preprints to alert readers that the work was fake. Izgubljenovic works at a non-existent university called Asteria Horizon University in the equally fake Nova City, California. One paper’s acknowledgements thank “Professor Maria Bohm at The Starfleet Academy for her kindness and generosity in contributing with her knowledge and her lab onboard the USS Enterprise”. Both papers say they were funded by “the Professor Sideshow Bob Foundation for its work in advanced trickery. This works is a part of a larger funding initiative from the University of Fellowship of the Ring and the Galactic Triad”.

Even if readers didn’t make it all the way to the ends of the papers, they would have encountered red flags early on, such as statements that “this entire paper is made up” and “Fifty made-up individuals aged between 20 and 50 years were recruited for the exposure group”.
