Bit of an older series, but it's so good. I don't normally have ppl who want lesser-known England novels, but maybe try this trilogy? The twist in the series is great, and they're each pretty short So no worries about breaking your wrist lol

One of these 3 😁. Clan of the Cave Bear is over 500, and the other 2 by Miller are each over 700 pages. All of them are part of a series, but can be read as standalones. They're better as series though. Also each one is wonderful, and every book after it is wonderful as well.

This one is super cute, low stakes with a hea. Also if I remember correctly the next book comes out this year, so there's at least 2 for you to read in her series with a third on the way.

Mine off the top of my head would be the Acorna series by Anne McCaffrey. Or maybe her pern series, but most of those books always read as more fantasy and less sci-fi in my opinion.
