Slowly making retro style videogames and music. Fan of JRPGs as well as RPGMaker and indie games.
Been a while since I posted anything from my indie gamedev projects. Been dealing with some issues. But anway, this is a song called "Morning Has Gold in Its Mouth..." from my RPG dream project, the music from a mining town. If it sounds unfinished, it's because it is! Very much a WIP.
I ate this pizza a while back and took this pic to show a friend. Couldn't bring myself to delete it afterward. It was just too perfect.
In FF 11 I got an Egg Shield that gives you free random eggs once every 24 hours and some of them sell surprisingly well.
Wherever you are, Dancing Girl from the End Credits of Gameboy Camera, I hope you're doing well.
Oh heehee it's PFP Day? Look I just like that weird S from the 90s. Anyway, I made it in Aseprite to help teach myself how to use it.
Been playing Final Fantasy 11 using a controller, positioning my right hand kinda like this. It's to help with grip strength and hand pain issues. Occurs to me this probably wouldn't even be feasible in 14 but it's been a big help in 11. This is an 8BitDo Ultimate, btw. Great controller.
Updated the first character portrait a little bit. I think my biggest issue right now with pixel art is learning shading, so I'm not happy with it yet. His face shape is better now tho. This is literally the closest I got to gamedev work in the past few days btw. #indiegamedev #Aseprite #retro
I forgot to post this at the time but since I'm still feeling proud of it, here it is. 100% of the Suikoden 1 retro achievements. Mostly a chill hundo but there are some luck based ones. Not fond of those.
Gamedev update: Gotta stop putting off how to properly make pixel art if I want this game to at least look somewhat how it does in my mind. So that's my main focus right now. Been making the character portraits at 48x48 but maybe I should up the pixel count for more detail? #indiegamedev #Aseprite
Smol gamedev update: Started trying to learn how to do the pixel art character portraits in Aseprite. It's been a struggle. Proportions seem off, even tho I've tinkered with it for a bit. Shading looks off too. I'll figure it out eventually, but here's what I have so far. #indiegamedev
I've just been sitting around the past few days. Haven't been feeling well. This short Aseprite animation, a couple lines of dialogue and about 8 seconds of music are all I have to show for my gamedev work. #indiegamedev #pixelart
Gamedev update: Took way longer to make this than I want to admit. Still can't figure out how to make his walk look more realistic in a way that looks good. See how his back step doesn't get further away? Tried using darker shades to simulate the effect instead. #indiegamedev #pixelart #RPGmaker
I decided a while back to start over with retro achievements. I know, I'm weird. Chose Crystalis for the first 100% because it's quick and I love the game. Great soundtrack and the idea would work well in modern times. Some repetitive tiling in dungeons can make them harder to navigate tho. #NES
Not gonna lie, learning to do even simple animations has been really hard for me. I'm still new to this stuff. Keep finding little mistakes. I'm getting there tho. Anyway, that's it for gamedev updates. Kinda just been trying to relax the past few days. #indiegamedev #pixelart #Aseprite #RPGmaker
Decided to keep the exaggerated walk animation. It'll probably look goofy to some but I like it, so it stays. Still working on converting the other two playable characters to the new style but it's going well. I love your cat, btw. #indiegamedev #pixelart #Aseprite #RPGmaker
Small gamedev update: So uh, I spent a few days reworking the art style again. I just wanted a middle ground between the old one and the new simplified one. Still the simple style that I love but with a tiny bit more detail. Getting better with Aseprite too. #indiegamedev #pixelart #RPGmaker #JRPG
Small gamedev update: I think I'm happy with this idle animation as well. Still tweaking the final one but I'm getting there. Also feeling a little more comfy in Aseprite. #indiegamedev #pixelart #RPGmaker #JRPG
Started work on the idle animations. If it wasn't obvious he's a robot before, it is now. That's about it from me today as far as gamedev and Aseprite goes. #indiegamedev #pixelart #RPGmaker #JRPG
Small gamedev update: Took a bit but I'm happy with the overworld sprite for the third and final playable character in my game. Had fun but I need to properly learn Aseprite. Still just fumbling around. Kinda feel like I wanna make the whole game in this style. #indiegamedev #RPGmaker #JRPG
Small gamedev update: I'm now happy with the overworld sprite of the second character in my retro style JRPG project. Hated it at first but did some tweaking. I think I have come to love this super simplified pixel art style. Just feels right. #indiegamedev #Aseprite #RPGmaker
