Could this be a solution?

A repurposing of the original map giving the option to go LEFT off the map, going through a Pac-Man maze portal, following the dots, emerging on the right-hand side of the map by the pickup point. The central desert portion has the for Pac-Man ghosts from the center, with a red "X" over it.

A short from MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000 called "Uncle Jim's Dairy Farm" features a ludicrously busy (and, thanks to quips, unfun) day. At the end of that day, Crow (Trace Beaulieu) quips, "Day one is over at long last." For some reason I'm thinking about that line a lot today, on January 20.
