Meeting No. 70 of the year. Even I am finding it hard going (geddit?) in this weather. Thank goodness the grandstand has air conditioning. There is a bit of a breeze up here on the downs, but it's not very refreshing.
Now I'm home, the big question is: do I have enough Commonwealth Games souvenirs?
The Spirit of Brighton, a feature of the original, late 60s Churchill Square shopping centre, now gone in the new, enclosed version of same.

I know you're away, but here are the sad remains of Frankfurt racecourse, now a park. What the faux-oriental building is about, who can guess. One of only 2 closed courses where I've actually attended meetings. At least the refreshment stall at the tram stop keeps alive the memory.
First trip to the Bluebell Railway in 2026. It's good to travel on the line when the bluebells, primroses and other assorted spring flowers are in bloom.
After a gap of 3 years, I visited the remains of Folkestone Racecourse today. The proposed redevelopment has clearly not started yet. Indeed, there seemed to be no one about at all. It all felt very sad. You may be interested, @allmanbros2.bsky.social

I happened upon a red-flowering currant bush yesterday, while walking about. Apparently, the flowers and the currants are both edible. Like all currant bushes, it had that faint smell of cat's wee., but it gave a nice splash of colour on a footpath.
Now that the madness of last week is over, I'm back at the races at Plumpton (a free day for Lingfield members).
